Before the Story
Keith J Scott was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to the newly married Lucas Scott and Peyton Scott (nee Sawyer). His early life was growing up in the married student housing of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where both his parents attended. When he was two and a half years old, he moved with his parents to New York City and lived in a small apartment in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhatten. His father was working on publishing his third novel at this time. His mother was pregnant with his twin sisters at the time. A year later, they moved into their new Brownstone Townhouse in the Hell's Kitchen Neighborhood of Manhattan. While living in Manhattan, Keith started having play dates with his Mother's best friend, Brooke Davis, and two oldest daughters, Chastity and Isabella Adams. Little to his knowledge at the time, Keith would eventually marry Isabella. By the time he was four, Keith moved to Georgia while his father pursued his Master's Degree and lived outside of Atlanta. When Keith was about to start elementary school, his father finished his master's, and the family returned to Tree Hill, settling into the refurbished mansion named Leighton. During the refurbishment of Leighton, Keith would meet and befriend two of the most important people in his life, the brother and sister Huck and Kelly Burke. Huck and Kelly Burke's father, Cade "Red" Burke, was involved in the refurbishment of Leighton. Keith would become fast friends, and ultimately teammates with Huck Burke, Baseball and Football, and best friends with Kelly. By high school, Keith was considered one of the best athletes of his year and made the Varsity Basketball Team as a sophomore. He would also start dating Jessalyn Windsor, cheerleader and school IT Girl.All Roads Lead Back Home
At the beginning of All Roads Lead Back Home, Keith is a sophomore in high school and spending a lazy late spring/early summer playing basketball at the River Court. His early success inflated his ego and caused tension within the family. Keith would have a rivalry with his one-year-older aunt, Angela Scott. As part of the method of trying to deflate his ego, Keith works at his family's club/bar Club TRIC moping floors and cleaning up the place from the night before.

Mental Trauma
Keith lost his first child at three months old, Adam Scott, to SIDS. Also, he lost his best friend and tank commander during a border clash while deployed to Poland in Europe.

Some of Keith's important relationships were not always the best for him.
Jessalyn Windsor, the school head cheerleader and IT girl. She picked him out because of his age and success on the basketball court. Jessalyn was responsible for the number 13 tattoo on Keith. Their relationship was not considered a healthy one. Jessalyn ended it with Keith after a car accident took her out of school.
Isabella "Izzy" Adams, Keith, and Izzy dated in high school at the end of their junior year and their senior year. Just before their senior year, Izzy got pregnant with their son Adam, who died about three months old of SIDS. Keith and Izzy attended different universities, and by Christmas of their freshman year, they had split up. They would remain estranged until the summer after their junior year of university. Where they would get back together and fully recommit themselves to each other after a trip to New York. After their senior year of university, they would marry and had their first daughter, Noami "Nomi" Scott. A few years later, they would have their second son, Ellis Scott.
Shae Parker was Keith's girlfriend for most of his junior year at university. The summer after his junior year, they would travel to Tree Hill and meet Keith's family. The summer didn't go well, and Keith would find the pull to return to Izzy. Keith would send Shae away and break up with her soon into that summer.
