The Gilded Goblin

The most notorious establishment in Dacca, known for its lavish entertainment and secretive dealings, is the Gilded Goblin. Standing two stories tall, it towers over the other buildings in the town, its exterior adorned with elaborate gold leaf designs and glowing lanterns that beckon patrons from all walks of life. The Gilded Goblin is not just a gambling hall; it's a realm of opulence and mystery, where fortunes are won and lost in the blink of an eye.   The Gilded Goblin is owned and run by a charismatic and shrewd goblin named Zokk Featherfingers. Zokk is a figure of some controversy in Dacca, known for his flamboyant attire, quick wit, and a penchant for bending rules to his favor. Despite the town officials' disapproval of gambling, Zokk has managed to maintain the Gilded Goblin's operations, arguing its significant contribution to the local economy through the revenue it generates.

Reception by Town Officials:

While gambling isn't illegal in Dacca, the town officials maintain a strained relationship with the Gilded Goblin. They are wary of the hall's influence on the populace and concerned about the types of individuals it attracts to Dacca. However, recognizing the fiscal benefits and the impossibility of shutting down such a popular and lucrative enterprise, they choose to turn a blind eye, allowing the Gilded Goblin to operate in a legal gray area.

Shady and Unsightly Services:

Beyond the allure of its gaming tables, the Gilded Goblin offers a range of services that cater to the more shadowy aspects of society:
  • Secret Betting Rings: For those seeking higher stakes, the Gilded Goblin hosts clandestine betting rings where vast sums of money change hands over everything from underground fights to illegal races.
  • Loan Services: Zokk Featherfingers offers loans to those in dire need, at steep interest rates. These loans often lead patrons into a spiral of debt, with some finding themselves working off their dues through service to the Gilded Goblin or other, less savory tasks.
  • Information Brokering: The hall has become a hub for the exchange of information, where secrets are as valuable as gold. Zokk and his trusted associates deal in rumors, secrets, and intelligence, selling information to the highest bidder.
  • VIP Rooms for Illicit Activities: The second floor of the Gilded Goblin is rumored to house rooms where the elite engage in various illicit activities, shielded from the eyes of the law. These rooms are strictly invitation-only, and what happens within them is a closely guarded secret.
  • Smuggling Connections: The Gilded Goblin serves as a front for smuggling operations, facilitating the illegal trade of goods in and out of Dacca. Zokk has established connections with various criminal networks, using the gambling hall as a cover for these activities.

Architecture

Constructed from rich, dark woods harvested from the Whispering Woods and accented with stones quarried and imported from the Irontop Mountains, the building exudes a sense of grandeur uncommon in the port town of Dacca.

Exterior Design Elements:

  • Facade: The exterior boasts intricate carvings depicting various scenes of goblin folklore, including legendary gambles and deals that shaped the fates of heroes and fools alike. Stained glass windows, vibrant and colorful, depict the hall's namesake, a goblin with dice for eyes and a crown of coins, inviting all who dare to change their fortunes within its walls.
  • Entrance: A grand double door made of reinforced oak, bound in iron and adorned with knockers shaped like goblin heads, welcomes patrons into the hall. Flanking the entrance are two statues of goblins, one holding a deck of cards and the other a pair of oversized dice.

Interior Design and Furnishings:

The Gilded Goblin's interior is a lavish display of luxury and comfort designed to entice and retain its clientele. The walls are paneled in polished wood, with golden trimmings and velvet draperies adding warmth and depth. The floors are covered in plush carpets, featuring intricate patterns that guide guests through the sprawling establishment.
