Thaddaeus
Thaddaeus was born and grew up in Rimeport and he's still there most of the time. His parents couldn't afford to send him to the Academia Arcanum, he had to settle for studying history instead. He showed an aptitude for it and progressed to the level of Journeyman Scribe by the time he turned adult.
His first real job as a scribe was to accompany an archaeological expedition where he befriended one of the guards, a gnome conjurer named Valston.
On the way back from a rather ordinary dig, mainly cataloguing some ruins and the stone-carvings on them, disaster struck as they were ambushed by some bandits who thought they had found some artefacts. The researchers and support staff were unharmed but Valston and several of the other guards were injured. The expedition only had a low level cleric with them who couldn't save them all and Valston died as a result of his injuries but not before gifting his spellbook to Thaddaeus.
Working a few years more enabled him to save up enough to enrol at the Academia Arcana and he decided to focus on conjuration to honour Valston. One of the first spells he cast on his own was to summon a familiar, the fluffy cat he later named Fumbles wasn't quite the noble creature he had expected to get but sometimes you get what you deserve and not only what you need. Fumbles got his name after his curiosity lead him knock down a book that turned over an inkwell which in turn spilled out and destroyed a nearly completed copy of a map of the known world.
Thaddaeus can best be described as an arcane tourist, he's not really into proper research but like to experience magical phenomena and discuss arcane theory with others in the field.
On an ordinary day, Thaddaeus can usually be found in his customary corner of the Long Rest Inn, providing his services as a scribe and reader for anyone who can pay.
