Jack Palmer (a.k.a. Wolf)

Wolf is one of Katya's most loyal followers, despite being human instead of gifted. Formerly known as Jack Palmer, he was a brilliant mathematician initially employed in a low level Cohort accountant position. He attempted to use his skill to win the Coin Syndicate's most lucrative card tournament. However, no amount of calculation was capable of beating their sophisticated method of cheating their players, and Jack ended up taking too high a risk and losing more than he could hope to repay. The Coin Syndicate requires its debtors to either pay up on the spot or become what amounts to slave labor in their establishment until the debt is paid off. Jack worked for them for about eight months before Katya, in a bid to gain the money she needed to build her bathhouse, joined one of the games and out-cheated the syndicate leader. In an effort to pay her off without handing over any money, he sold her Jack's outstanding debt, and knowing she'd need someone with his accounting prowess, she accepted. To avoid anyone who might not take kindly to his former line of work finding out he used to be a Cohort member, Jack changed his name when he joined the Rapids Syndicate to Wolf, in keeping with the single names most of Katya’s people use, and their connection to nature.
