Halfling is the name most other races give to these diminutive people. In their own language they are the People of the Forest,
or simply the People. The ancestors of halflings sought shelter in the forests nestled in the Ringard Peaks, turning to nature
to obtain shelter, food, and companionship. Halfling armour typically consists of leaf, leather, or hide, while javelins, blowguns,
and small curved knives are common weapons.
Culture
Most halflings live in small villages high up in the great trees of the
Ringard forests. Communication and trade between these villages is
frequent. Much of their time is spent hunting for game, crafting
weapons and armour, or gathering herbs, fruit, and other resources
from the forest. To compensate for their smaller stature, many halflings
train the animals of the forest to aid them in their tasks. While the
larger predators garner a lot of attention, monkeys, birds, and small
mammals are much more common.
Relations
Most halflings feel safest in their forest homes and dislike the feeling of
being exposed in many other areas of Riesa. Halflings are friendly with
dwarves and the humans of Havenal, so long as they are properly
respectful of the natural world around them. Despite their physical
differences, halflings and orocs get along quite well due to their shared
love of animals. Halflings have difficulty understanding the nomadic
viewpoint of elves or gnomes, rarely travelling far from their forest
homes. One exception is Fell Gnomes with whom they share an interest
in poisons and other substances. Halflings feel comfortable in the
jungles of the Phoenix kingdoms and share the edari’s love of birds, but
they dislike the artificial courts of city life.
