Dwarves are descendants of those who survived in (and under) the hills at the base of the Ringard Peaks. Dwarves tend to
gather in walled forts, surrounded by fortified farms. Farming, mining, and smithing are the cornerstones of dwarven society.
Most heavy armors and the best axes are of dwarven manufacture.
Culture
Dwarven society is centred around the home. Dwarven houses are
typically round with a large central hearth which serves as a source of
heat, as a forge, and for cooking. Dwarves live in large groups
consisting of many interconnected families. After a long day on the
farm, in the mine, or at the forge, dwarves enjoy relaxing with a strong
ale. Food is frequently root vegetables, grains, and pork or mutton.
Venison and mountain goat are also enjoyed when available. Clothing is
often heavy wool or leather, and frequently striped in patterns unique to
each family. Common pets, familiars, and animal companions include
chickens, goats, hares, moles, and pigs.
Relations
Dwarves get along well with the humans of Lake Haven. The gnomish
caravans are essential for dwarven craftsmen to acquire essential
ingredients and to sell their finished goods. Relations remain respectful
with the gnomes, even if the dwarves don’t share their curiosity. While
dwarves are convinced their well armoured warriors could show the
orocs a few things about fighting, they don’t deny that the orocs are
fierce fighters in their own right. Dwarves don’t understand how
halflings can prefer to live so far above the earth and don’t trust their
sneaky woodland ways. Elves and Edari are also too foreign in their
thinking for most relationships to be anything more than cordial at
best.
