Sirbvae

Sirbvae simply put are plant people. They resemble plants, but have a bipedal appearance similar to other mortals; while the Sirbvae are one of the more experimental forms created by the Formers, they maintained the general form of a mortal. Sirbvae are able to prune themselves into their desired form, which is the basis of many aspects of their culture.

Plant Life

Sirbvae grow from small seeds that must be planted in soil to begin life. Seedlings are carried in pots, or with root-balls wrapped in cloth as they develop. As the grow, the soil is incorporated into their form. This is typically described as the heart of a Sirbvae, although this is not homologous to the heart of other mortals. Independence is achieved when they have fully incorporated their soil into their form, typically after about 3 years. The difference between a houseplant and a Sirbvae is problematically minuscule before independence. A Sirbvae is able to wiggle their branches, resembling the disruption of a light breeze. Some babbling, typically humming, may be heard from the soil when listening closely.
After independence is achieved, Sirbvae grow unpruned for about 15 years. Different subcultures may encourage sculpting sooner or later than this point, but after 15 years, the natural form of a Sirbvae is apparent. They are naturally bipedal, with arms and legs. Like any mortal, Sirbvae may be any shape or size, tall, short, wide, or narrow. Unlike other mortals, they can prune their form.
Pruning begins around the age of 15 years. Expudamus is the celebration of the first pruning of a Sirbvae's life. The first pruning is largely considered to be the coming-of-age of a Sirbvae. As a Sirbvae ages, they may wish to adjust their form through careful management, but without wiring or harsh pruning, they will be unable to achieve some appearances, especially if it contradicts the pruning they have done so far. In general, a Sirbvae must prune themselves once every year or two to maintain their form. Pruning more often is also common to keep branches from appearing untidy.

An Unusual Body

Sirbvae lack many of the same characteristics that other mortals expect. They are essentially plant life, rather than animal life. Their root clod is often mentioned as if it is a heart, and while it is not truly analogous, it is a quick and convenient comparision. Their root clod must be watered and without it they would die. Souls are hard to pin down, but deadly wounds to the root clod release the soul, seeming to suggest that a Sirbvae's soul may be harbored in their root clod. In general, however, a Sirbvae cannot be killed quickly. Deadly wounds to other mortals typically debilitate a Sirbvae enough to win a fight with them, but their death wont come for another day or two as they wilt.
Wounds to larger structural branches are painful, however the smaller branches are more like hair. They can be painlessly trimmed. Given enough time to grow a small branch may become another structural branch. Typically Sirbvae only maintain a body and four limbs, and curl new branches around their legs and arms if desired.
Sirbvae have no predetermined sex. Although some Sirbvae may have a gender, this is typically a result of interaction with other cultures. To have children, Sirbvae will cultivate a flower with either a pistol or a stamen. The Sirbvae decide which role to cultivate and may switch roles with their partner when having multiple children. It is impossible for a Sirbvae to have children with other mortals, leading to a more isolated culture than many of the other races. That is not to say that relationships between Sirbvae and other races are not heard of. They must simply adopt if they want children.

A Good Heading

-Sirbvae may wear clothing in winter to maintain warmth
-Besides winter, Sirbvae typically do not wear clothes unless they find them beautiful, typically just preferring jewelry
-Sirbvae do not need to eat, however they require sunlight and must water their soil clod.

Naming Traditions

Sirbvae often share their names with the plants they resemble. Possible names include:
Maple, Heather, Elm, Lavender, Mazus, Azalea, Birch, Passiflora, and Orchid.   Naming is also greatly influenced by location, and local culture. A sirbvae may also have a name traditionally associated with another mortal, although this is less common than other mortals sharing names as Sirbvae tend to have less interaction with the other mortals.
