Personal history
NLXY was brought up in a well off household. He lived alone in the “family” tool shop with his mother, ICAH. She would often tell him stories of the colourful foreigners who would pass briefly through the city and the mercenaries who helped fend off The Crawling Inferno. NL, as NLXY was called throughout his childhood, learned his mother’s craft at an early age and was quite skilled. He began to take up his place in the shop around the age of 12. The primary reason he took up more responsibility was because his mother was seeing a squat, but surprisingly handsome, dinobold who was known as OQPW. About 2 years after ICAH fell for OQPW, they absconded into the night and never returned.
NLXY successfully ran the shop until he was ~23. In the time that he ran the shop it prospered. It became more than a tool shop and by the time he turned 22 it was essentially a general store. Despite his ability to make his business prosper he never got along well with elvish customers. NLXY eventually tired of the repetitive and mundane work required for running a store and promptly sold his establishment. He then joined a militia. He worked within the militia for 3 years before deciding that he quite liked the militia but yearned for more. He joined the military school exactly 12 days after his 26th birthday. He was a terrible student and would ditch all his academic courses in favor of physical training and spending time with his friends. He, somehow, managed to graduate after 11 years of schooling. He was then promptly sent off to his various duties. He quite enjoyed his job. He especially savored the time he got to fight the Crawling Inferno. He happily served for 7 years.
His service as a “normal” soldier/guard was abruptly terminated with an offer he could not pass up. His superior was asking for brave individuals willing to venture into the terrible maze. Stuff happens, people are met, adventures are had, and other things I am too lazy to come up with happen. This happens until NLXY gets injured and is no longer able to serve. He opts to not rest while he heals; buying a farm instead. He raises giant snails on that farm for about 10 years before becoming restless yet again. This time his attention is drawn to the mining trees.
He begins his life in the mines as a caretaker of the snails. Throughout the course of a couple years he falls for a miner named LSPC. They fall deeply in love. NLXY vows to work his way tirelessly through the ranks so eventually they can settle down and raise a family. He successfully rises up the ranks and ends up owning quite a few mines. LSPC and him find a house to settle down in but before they can move in LSPC dies in a cave-in. NLXY, heartbroken, slowly sinks into a deep depression. He is forced to forfeit his position and belongings and when he comes to again he has almost nothing. He manages to find a job in construction. He saves up enough money and rebuilds his reputation to a point where the army will accept his services again. He is given a plethora of minor tasks. He becomes restless yet again.
As he is at the bar contemplating what to do next an image of a complex maze with no exit flashes through his mind. He takes it as a message from Kurtulmak, to whom he has forever been devoutly religious. He has no idea what Kurtulmak is trying to tell him but he wants to find out. He goes to the great priestess HSDE for guidance. She tells him that he glimpsed the location of Kurtulmak and must spend the rest of his days searching so that the god may return to his people. NLXY who had grown bored of his life in the village readily agrees to become HSDE's champion. He trains both body and soul for months. During this time HSDE falls in love with him. And he with her in turn.
HSDE reveals to NLXY that she is pregnant with his child. On that same day, a strange group of adventurers come to town. (they fell through the crack in the ceiling) NLXY helps this group slay the crawling inferno. Things are looking up.
Then NLXY is summoned by HSDE, for she has had a vision. The vision was of a great gnomish army. The army was marching with purpose. A heavily shackled kurtulmak is among them. HSDE urges NLXY to lead a crew of adventurers and trusted friends into the maze to find and destroy the gnome army. To aid them she presents NLXY with a holy artifact, a magical sword and shield made of wood. The party collects 6 of NLXY's old friends and they prepare to leave the town. The party decides that the best way of getting deep into the maze is via the portal which is said to yawn in the jungle below the village. The party braves the jungle but can not find the exit. 5 of NLXY's close friends are slain whilst traversing the jungle. NLXY, mourning yet again, dumbly follows the rest of the party, finding his only solace in DICC. The party ends up in the city of the frost gnolls and get into irreparable trouble. They are sent to work in the quartz mines for the rest of their natural lives.
Sorin, Spike, and DICC plot an escape whilst NLXY toils away in the mines, forgetting everything, receding into himself. After about a year of planning Sorin, Spike, and DICC grab NLXY and bust out of captivity into an unknown section of the maze. DICC does not survive the escape. He sacrificed himself so that the rest could get away.
Sorin, Spike, and NLXY wander the maze. Doing just enough to survive. During this time NLXY, the supposed leader of the group, recedes even farther inward. He becomes a cold, furious warrior. He kills everything in the name of the ruthless god Kurtulmak. Kurtulmak who took away his friends and his family. Selfish kurtulmay, who waits passively by to be waited upon by his subjects. NLXY pulls his divine magic from this anger. He notices that his pain seems to go away whilst under the influence of Heroism.
