Dreadful Lands

Perhaps the only truly humanoid uninhabited region in the entirety of the Elgidth Continent, the Dreadful Lands are a large area spanning various biomes from plains to jungles, to swamps, to forests. The flora and the weather, and the non-existence of humanoids in the area all are unimportant when compared to the reason why this region is called the "Dreadful Lands". In the region live the most dangerous monsters and beasts that could be found in all of Rexweld. A true jungle where every single creature is a predator and is out to devour whatever it comes into contact with.    The only reason why these monsters have not expanded and left the Dreadful Lands to seek the buffets that are humanoid settlements is because of an organization called the Nightmare Watch, which's members have devoted their lives to containing the monsters, having built a large wall spanning from the West to the North of the region that then going into the water of the Death Sea where it continues East, back on the land. Although there is no wall to the South, there is a large, incredibly deep and wide chasm that spans hundreds of miles called Elgidth's Wound which could only be travelled over by means of flight. Since there are monsters in the Dreadful Lands with such capabilities there are Nightmare Watch administered forts that are ready to stop any such flying creatures from reaching the rest of Elgidth.

Geography

Due to the region that is the Dreadful Lands being as large as it is spanning many biomes and all sorts of terrain the region could not all be described as one unit. In some places, it is fairly even ground where in others it is more mountainous and uneven. It is a fairly overgrown region as there are jungles and forests all over although there are some open fields as well.

Ecosystem

The creatures residing in the Dreadful Lands are almost all predators hunting each other, looking for moments when another creature is weak or unready for an ambush. This is how it is and how it has been for a very long time, although with how long these powerful creatures have co-existed, a certain animal kingdom hierarchy has appeared with some monsters being recognized as ones to not challenge or mess with whatsoever with many of the weaker and stronger creatures recognizing what territories belong to whom.

History

It is rumoured that a very long time ago, thousands of years ago the region that today is the Dreadful Lands used to be a more peaceful, normal region not inhabited by these monsters and beasts. Some stories even tell of humanoids having had settlements in the area. Although the cause is unknown it is said that in a certain timeframe everything changed as the monsters and beasts appeared, now being the rulers of the land. It is said that they started in a much smaller area but then slowly expanded to the full size of what the Dreadful Lands are today.
