Kaleidos

Our World as We Know It

Kaleidos, or "The Material Plane" to scientists and cosmologists, is located smack-dab in the middle of the universe-- the aptly named "Kaleidoscope". The little sphere of existence is a great ocean, host to a number of landmasses and kingdoms.

The Cradle

The northernmost points of Materius are completely covered in ice. The Cradle was named so by the dwarves, where it is their legendary ancestral homeland and thus the birthplace of all life on the plane. Despite its seemingly hostile environment, many snow-creatures make the Cradle their home.

The Bridge

Connecting Galoria with Bastion is a large fractured stretch of land covered in snow and beset by blizzards. Historians suggest that thousands of years ago the bridge was whole, and supported migration of various races between the two major continents. When a supernatural event broke the Bridge, the races settled until they advanced enough to develop sea travel.

Galoria

Located west of Bastion, Galoria is a sprawling continent large enough to support many ecosystems. Referred to as “The Continent of Kiths” in ancient times, Galoria is the home continent of the various humanoid races: humans, elves, orcs, dwarves, gnomes and halflings. Once fragmented into many warring kingdoms, now they are united under a single Alliance overseen by the Galorian Council. The nation members of the Alliance clockwise from the top are Kaamos, Inishi, Eterna, Zaman, Onamata and Aldheim.

Bastion

The largest continent on Kaleidos is Bastion, a massive stretch of land that reaches high up north and south. Direct sea passage to bypass Bastion is near-impossible without venturing into dangerous polar territories, and thus Bastion got its name. Bastion is called “The Continent of Beasts” in old texts, and it is the birthplace of all sorts of varied and monstrous races-- from tabaxi and yuan-ti to dragonborn and treants. The countries of Bastion are as fractured and varied in culture as the races that dwell on it. The nations from north to south are Wolsreach, Briarova, Eian, Dravroth and Brengar.

The Gate Isles

Located directly south of Zaman Province lies the Gate Isles, a sprawling archipelago consisting of individual islands both large and small. Ancient legends describe the Isles as the ‘Cornerstone of Four Elements’, where the barrier between the Material and Elemental planes were weak and adventurers could easily cross between them. Though such portals do not exist in today’s world, evidence of elemental chaos bleeding into the Material Plane can be seen in the Isles’ native inhabitants and climate.

Bikaersa

Also known as ‘The Two Kaers’. Twin continents that mirror each other in shape, just southwest of Bastion. Bikaersa was ruled by a single empire until a century ago, where a series of political and industrial upheavals split them in two. The old empire still remains as Alder-Kaers to the north, whilst the southern continent developed rapidly into the New Kaers Republic. They two territories don’t get along, but maintain tenuous trade relations over the Kaers Sea between them.

The Ring

Towards the southernmost stretch of Materius lies the Ring, and aptly-named circle of jagged islands around the south pole. Like the Cradle, the climate is bitter cold. However, unlike the Cradle-- which supports unique forms of polar life-- the Ring is barren. Explorers who return from the Ring describe it as ‘a cursed place that sucks life out of all things’, and unfortunately little academic headway has been made since then to disprove such claims.
