Bastion

Bastion, "The Continent of Beasts", is split up into the following continents from north to south.

The Kingdom of Wolsreach

Ruled by the canine Lupin, the Wolsreach Kingdom lies at the northernmost point of Bastion. With beautiful taiga forests to the north and lush meadows to the south, Wolsreach’s mild climate and peaceful flora made it a perfect place for settlers to build upon. Wolsreach is firmly allied with both Inishi of Galoria and Eian to its immediate south.   It is a peaceful and idyllic kingdom ruled by a benevolent king, and is frequently cited as ‘the most livable country’ in global polls due to its low crime rates and almost no corruption amongst the ruling class. However, things were not always this way. Far back in the Mythic Era, much of Bastion was ruled by territorial dragons, ferocious monsters and murderous goblins. When the ancestral Tabaxi and Dragonborn factions elected to flee across the Bridge, the Lupin stayed and fought tooth and nail against their oppressors, driving them to the south and east. They established a kingdom upon their reclaimed land, and vowed never to fight amongst each other again -- for their strength must be saved for their enemies, not kin.   Modern-day Wolsreach is a reflection of this past: whilst the kingdom itself is at peace, the borders are armed with a significant military presence constantly on the watch against Briarova and the Dravroth States.

Eian

Due south of Wolsreach is the desert country of Eian, the ancestral homelands of the Lupin and Tabaxi. Forests that border Wolsreach are temperate, whilst the rest of the country is dry grass, savannah and sand.   Its history spans back thousands of years, but much of it lies buried and forgotten since the events of the Sundering. What remains of the First Era’s Eian paints it as a prosperous empire-- perhaps even the most powerful of all, with considerable reach across much of the Material Plane-- that collapsed completely and fell into ruin when its history was erased.   Eian has evolved in the 2nd Era into somewhat of a trading hub, operating off its western peninsula to maintain its diplomatic alliances with Wolsreach and Inishi. That said, recently the Eian economy has been faltering due to big industries in Galoria and New Kaers drawing people overseas and away. Historical analysts fear that if this trend continues, much of Eian’s proud history could be forgotten forever.

Briarova

Dominated by dense black forests, thick blankets of fog, treacherous mountains and all-consuming swamps, Briarova is a grim and eerie place known for its wild magic and supernatural phenomena. Much of the country is untouched by civilization, for good reason-- natural magic here runs deep, the native flora and fauna are toxic, monstrous and deadly. Briarovan villages close to the western border support humanoid populations, whilst the rest of the forests are the home of treants, myconids, firbolg, mousefolk and hags.   Briarova is ruled by a rich and powerful lord who rules the country in an absolute dictatorship. Its laws are fair, but strictly enforced with harsh punishments. Any voices of dissent or plans for uprising are swiftly cut down by the lord’s guard. Despite this oppressive government, some say the lord’s harsh stance is the only thing keeping the land from being torn up by vampires, werewolves or other monsters that lurk in the dark. A change in ruler would surely bring Briarova some peace, but the current lord has ruled for over five hundred years and still shows no signs of age…and he’s not an elf.

Dravroth States

The stomping grounds of dragons since the dawn of time, Dravroth is up there with the Cradle for the title of oldest populated territory on the Material Plane. Much of the mountainous country is dominated by snowy peaks and sprawling forests, with little pockets of settled land in between. This land is divided up into states, constantly fought over by the dragons that lord over everyone and everything they can get their claws onto. State borders are constantly in turmoil, shifting and changing or even disappearing altogether as their draconic rulers fight, bargain and backstab their way to the top. A state is governed by its owned dragon, and that dragon alone-- a village might change their laws twice in a single day, should it be at the site of a particularly spectacular dispute. Each dragon has its own motivations for fighting: Some wish to rule benevolently in a way it seems most beneficial to the people, whilst others do it for glory and power.   Naturally the non-draconic population of the area, namely Bastion Dragonborn, lizard-folk and kobolds have tried to fight back against their draconic lords. Success is varied and rarely lasts. Suggestions by other world powers have been made to intervene somehow and quell the fighting, but doing so carries all sorts of political baggage and cultural grey-areas to the point most have quietly given up on the idea out of fear of retaliation.   The warring states are halted to the north by Wolsreach’s military, and there’s nothing to the south for the dragons to fight over-- so they don’t.

Brengar

The largest geographic chunk of Bastion are the Brengar Wastes, a large territory practically a continent of its own. It is separated from Dravroth to the north by a thin stretch of land, bordered by mountains. Another stretch of alps span across the south of the continent, forming a natural barrier against the howling cold of the south pole. Between the two alps lies a vast desert plateau-- lifeless, dry, and bitter cold.   Brengar is populated very sparsely, mostly by small towns and nomads up north who live off the land and engage in trade or farming for income. Goblinoids thrive in their small tribes and make a living off harassing trade caravans and livestock. The Plateau and the alps are infamously barren, devoid of natural resources or any sort of draw to population or support large cities. The rivers are full of silt, the mountains contain little to no ore, and the rocky ground is too brittle to build a quarry out of.   Many speculate on why this is the case. Scientists state it’s simply the geological makeup of the continent and can’t be helped. Historians suggest Brengar may have been prosperous one in the First Era, but the Sundering destroyed its civilization even more thoroughly than Eian’s. Religious scholars speculate that the influence of the Ring crept up and slowly rendered the continent inhospitable. Unlike the Ring however, Brengar still supports a unique ecosystem suited to deserts and scrublands.
