Lycantrophy

"The mists may shroud the moonlight most nights, but that don't make you any safer from the monsters folk become."

Transmission & Vectors

While the trait can be passed through heredity, it is most frequently the result of a bite or other injury by another lycanthrope. Coming into contact with the blood of a lycanthrope, while more rare, has also led to instances of the condition transmitting to an individual.

Treatment

Prior to the Shrouding, many clerics provided curse removal services which could prevent the spread of Lycantrophy. With these divine magics absent, no known cure is readily available even amidst the great wealth of Chalon.

Affected Groups

The documented cases of confirmed Lycantrophy display a range of Revne's population, suggesting there are not particularly distinguishable features which make someone more likely than another to be affected.

Hosts & Carriers

While several types of various creatures can unwittingly carry the magical mutation within them without ever being affected, most intelligent races are subject to the transformative conditions.

Prevention

Though a variety of merchants and medics offer supplements and medicinal remedies, the preventative measures of these offerings are oft brought into question with little credible evidence as to their effectiveness. For the average Revne citizen, the safest measure of prevention is to keep a healthy distance from the wild regions and to report any suspicious activity within the community so as to prevent contamination any further.

History

Legends and tales of werewolves and other transfigured monsters roaming the wilds and streets throughout Revne date back to well before the Shrouding. Even so, many believe the frequency of attacks and the instances of individuals becoming afflicted have steadily increased as the isolating fog looms over the region.

Cultural Reception

Lycanthropes are often forced to disguise themselves, leading duplicitous lives so as to safeguard themselves from detection and forced exile from society. Rumors speak of outcast lycanthropes welcomed into the mysterious druid circles which supposedly exist beyond the walls of civilization.
