Kirottu Desert

"Like scattered ashes of the fallen kingdom, sand whips across the desert dunes in blinding sheets carried by the eastern winds. In the hollow ruins of doomed opulence, the gusts roar and moan like the ghosts of centuries past, kings and beggars alike. For in the collapse of the kingdom, no man nor woman stood before the sudden and inescapable death with dignity. No, they had no earned such an ending."
— An excerpt from The Anthology of the Ages, Part II: Of Kingdoms & Capitals

Once home to the unrivaled capital city of Anathema as the crown jewel of the Age of Kings, the Kirottu Desert remains an empty, barren land save for the scattered nomadic arcanists seeking answers from the lost ruins of kingdoms past. Even the merchant expeditions of the Grand Capital show hesitancy to embark on a journey in the King's Desert, leaving such tasks to more fool-hearty adventuring parties who are more eager to face the dangers of the desert and the monstrous creatures which call it home.

Geography

Stretching for miles across the southwest island of Sulwyn, the Kirottu Desert is seen as little more than a monotonous landscape of sand dunes and blistering heat. Since the end of the Age of Kings, the land has lain fallow and barren. Once an idyllic and lush landscape of vivacious forests, winding rivers, and gentle hills, the immediate decimation of the entire region rendered the ecosystem beyond recognition.

Fauna & Flora

Though few living things endure, yet alone thrive in the desert, there are a handful of creatures as well as several subspecies of succulents only found within the endless expanse of sand. Many of the plants suitable to this dry and scorched landscape serve as components within healing salves and other medicinal concoctions. Additionally, the exoskeletons of the large burrowing insect-like creatures which dwell within the sands and prefer the pervasive warmth are sought after by craftsmen for their durability under extreme heat.
