Mrs. Klaus Character in Return to Ravenloft | World Anvil

Mrs. Klaus (KLOUSE)

Patron Saintess of Aunts and Uncles

Mrs. Klaus is a demigoddess associated with banquets and familial tradition. In some cultures, she is also worshiped as the patron saintess of child-free aunts and uncles, particularly those who make pilgrimages to their hometowns for the Holiday of Simril.   Her surname is invoked to ensure those family members have safe journeys, as well as a blessing to find enough abundance out in the world to bring home with them; her first name is not recorded out of taboo, as it is said to be disrespectful to speak of her in such an informal and familiar manner.   She serves as a seneschal for Simril, keeping order in the goddess' home plane of Wynterhorne. According to legend, she is responsible for managing the Winter Solstice, overseeing production of gifts in her workshop, and performing Simril Miracles, usually of the 'seemingly impossible family reunion' variety.   It is customary to leave a bottle of icewine or a jar of hot cocoa mix by the fireplace for her on Simril Eve, so that her husband, Sante Klaus, can bring these back to Wynterhorne for her to enjoy. It is said that the wine and cocoa is what enables Mrs. Klaus to persevere through the stressful year.
