Circlet of Monarchs

The Emperor has always worn the Circlet of Monarchs. To allow it to fall into the hands of the Itakians would be sacrilege."
- Head Advisor Mehkat, Council of Coral Sea; Second Era.
The Circlet of Monarchs is the 'crown' worn by the ruler of the Retikan Seadwellers' society, whether they are in control of the planet or not. Made from the bones of a long-dead Leviathan, a diamond, and two amethysts, and decorated with brightly colored coral from the palace grounds, the Circlet is recognizable to any Seadweller who might see it. It is an open backed circlet that hooks over the upper horns of the ruler and rests on their forehead.
It is currently worn by self-proclaimed Empress of Retika, Iridana Arkaya, despite the Seadwellers having been ejected from their homeworld in the last Blood-War. While the circlet is said to be ancient and has been passed down to Seadweller rulers since it was first crafted, in actuality, there have been several Circlets of Monarchs. Circlets may be broken in battle, taken as war trophies, or even just ill-fitted to the next ruler, and a new one would be crafted to look as much like the original as possible.

Significance

This is the circlet that has been passed down for generations among the Seadwellers' royal families. It is meant to signify the ruler's right to rule. Taking the Circlet from the ruling monarch would be a condemnation that the monarch was a poor leader.

The Circlet is given to the new ruler when they reach adulthood at the age of 20 cycles, or approximately 70 Earth years, in a ceremony called the Passing of The Staff.
