Hall of Eternal Peace
This is the ceremonial heart of the Empire, where the Emperor holds court on holy days, Emperors and Princes are crowned, investitures performed, and all imperial weddings held.
Design
The Hall rises from a three-tiered terrace of marble, standing near thirty meters high. It is thirteen five-meter bays wide, the main hall being nine bays, and seven bays deep. The pillars, each made from the trunk of a single tree, are sheathed in gold and silver, carved delicately with patterns of the coiling Dragon of the Empire.
Entries
The central bay opens to the Throne Room of the Hall of Eternal Peace; each other bay has massive painted paper windows in its centre, depicting the guardian spirits of the Empire.
Sensory & Appearance
The Hall is bathed in natural light, supplemented by large silver and iron braziers; above each brazier is suspended an incense burner, perfuming the room.
Contents & Furnishings
Directly above the centre of the Hall is an elaborate caisson, adorned with the Imperial Dragon; it holds a massive set of polished silver orbs spilling from its mouth, carefully hung to mimic the shape of the constellation Ryeozhe, the Crown.
Below the dragon caisson stands the Great Imperial Throne, made of precious red sandalwood and gold. It stands on a dais seven shallow steps up from the main floor of the Hall, a majestically painted screen standing behind it; next to the throne lie two kneeling cushions, one for the Empress on the Throne's left, and one for the Sun Prince on the Throne's right.
The Throne's backrest is decorated with an elaborate astronomical chart, the signs of the Sun and Moon, half-eclipsing each other, positioned behind the Emperor's head.
