The Great Spirit Wasp Myth in Renúdetla | World Anvil

The Great Spirit Wasp

When the world was young, an unnamed spirit that took the shape of a wasp the size of a planet took hold of the world and stung it.

Summary

Prior to any written history of our world, there was spoken of a time when an enormous winged insect descended from the spirit world and attached itself to ours. As told by some of the children of the first spirits who came to this world, with mandibles the size of mountains it latched itself, and from the ground below the spirits watched a great stinger thunder towards some far away place and punctured the young world. It ensnared the world in this way for full week and a day without moving. Then, as quickly as it came, it left.

Spread

Once well known across the world and taken as fact, this myth fell from popularity with nothing having come of the incident. Only the oldest of the spirits still speak of it now.

Variations & Mutation

Another popular variation was the spirit wasp laid eggs within the belly of the world, and her children await the day to rise to the surface to feed. Other variations have added additional wasps and substituted different insects. However these were largely dismissed.
