The lady protectress is the captain of the ship of state and the final arbiter of the nation's most significant decisions. In theory, this would usually mean a great deal of holding court, conducting diplomacy, and making public appearances. In practice, the holder of this rank is typically a powerful adventurer with little interest in the niceties of state, so a chosen second often handles day-to-day command decisions while the lady protectress goes out and hits things with swords.

Benefits

The rank grants practically unlimited dictatorial powers. It, and the nation it is a part of, were founded and maintained on the personal power of the nation's first lady protectress, Kelsey of Kaelund, and the power it grants is largely maintained by the same. To be the lady protectress is to have one's whims made manifest. It is fortunate for the people of Kaelund that Kelsey is a benevolent overlady.
