2021/08/04: Cubit - Self-Sufficiency and Mysteries Death Part 1 Report

General Summary

Knight, Sith, Keel, Immori, Ios   The party rests in the safe room at the Cubit dungeon hub, then enters Self-Sufficiency. Knight left the crickets in the dungeon hub.   Self-Sufficiency’s first room (or entire dungeon?) is a time-accelerated individual survival challenge. No gear allowed, no arcane or divine magic allowed. Keel gave everyone a quick survival basics lecture. After passing the signs that explained the rules (and falling off the subsequent cliff), we were dropped into the surf, alone and empty-handed. Knight was also small again, and apparently alive; it looks like when bereft of his soul power and other backup magic that has transformed him over time, he defaults to the original small form.   Keel, being from the desert, had some initial trouble swimming, but figured it out quickly enough. Sith sank, but used psionic powers to adapt to the water. Knight wasn’t able to locate land, and eventually was ejected from the competition after swimming aimlessly (if strongly) for days until his strength failed and he drowned.   The survivors then had to climb a difficult cliff from the beach they landed on. They all succeeded, though Keel and Sith were a bit banged up. Up on top, they found themselves in a scraggly woods area containing dangerous predators. Cold and wet, they all just managed to build fires to sustain them to the next day.   They were left to survive on the island for several weeks with whatever they could find or catch. Keel and Sith started to get sick, but managed to treat themselves with herbs and the like. Eventually the apex predator on the island showed up to contest their territory. Immori died horribly. Sith lived through the fight, but died of his wounds that night. Keel handily murdered the thing and ate like a king for a week.   Knight, Sith, and Immori all now have a geas to kill a vampire lord named Ragross. We have to take steps towards killing him within a month or we start taking Con damage.   The Self-Sufficiency door has been replaced with Pillar of Light, with a very bright door. The party took another eight-hour rest and identified the treasure. The rest of the party generously gave Knight the Landfall Compass, and Immori gave Knight a hug. Then the party headed for Mysteries Death.   They found themselves in a wooden house or hotel with paintings of British people. There’s a man with a leather overcoat and crazy hair. He says they’ll be facing five increasingly difficult puzzles. The rewards are purely monetary and will be paid out after we leave. We can return to the butler at any time and he’ll let us exit if we want to. To get to the next puzzle, we have to declare the answer to the butler and he’ll open the way.   1. Wooded hollow where people have gone missing. Figure out what happened to them, then solve the issue. Don’t die.
