Introduction
The Turbulent upset in the US after a successful Jan 6, a great fear set in the French Republic over similar reactionary ideologies in their own country. After a successful vote of no confidence of President Corbin Deschamps who was president since 2017. Soon after France began a new project to lead Europe into a new age of progress science and reason. They failed but they did give it a good go and was some of the best years in the 5th Republic shortly before the Nuclear holocaust.Government
Unlike the Brits, the French never had any sweeping reforms and were more focused on defending their side of Europe from encroaching authoritarianism that capitulated Post Nazi Germany and many other nearby countries like the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungry, Italy and Netherlands. Reforms were more focused on fine-tuning the system that underwent a process of De-Nazification to a lesser extent for instance the Government stripped any symbol of the fasces. While it was not inherently meant to be a symbol of that, it was a conscious decision to remove the symbol simply because of its closeness with far-right politics that the Republic eventually identified as an existential threat. It operates as a Semi Presidential Unitarian Republic that replaced the Parliamentary system of the 4th Republic however there were pending movements to restore it pre-2031. The Government also relented all of its feudalistic taxes on former colonies and fixed its tax codes. Despite committing against far-right politics, France was very vulnerable to influence and routinely cleaned itself out all while failing to achieve overall change. There were moves in the Economic policy however as well as a general shift in foreign policy that moved to an Anti-Fascist Position, opposing the growing extremism in Europe and in its neighbour, Germany.Military
The military saw a major uptick in membership and funding with massive reforms focused on making each unit in the French military more efficient and effective against European Adversaries. the French Foreign Legion grew massively as well as Former and newly liberated French Colonies wanted protection against militant nation states and with the UN continuing to flail and fail to prevent wars. The Foreign Legion became instrumental in protecting these vulnerable states. It saw major action in WW3 and was instrumental in fighting the Neo Axis Powers wiping out Millions of Invasion forces from such countries but eventually was torn down by the use of Nukes and Biological Warfare.Doctrine
Being the 3rd Largest army in Europe France adopted a specifically defensive posture as the French Economy lacked the ability to build massive invasion armies and so France and allied territories were turned into deeply entrenched fortresses, a process that began in 2022 in the wake of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine. France also focused heavily on the air force and adopted the use of British and American Aircraft both of which they learned to build themselves. The Harrier Mk.2-F is the French-made version of the British Aircraft same as the F-22-FR. They also employed heavy use of Mechanized units with mass Tank formations backed up by escorts of APCs carrying Infantry corps. Hammering enemy positions and creating jaw-dropingly large defensive formations which famously included the Maginot Line 2, a defensive Line that stretched across all of France's borders and her controlled waters. French Coasts were also heavily fortified taking notes from Rommel's Omaha Defenses, placing massive batteries on the coasts to batter enemy invasion forces which came in very handy when it came to rebuking the many naval invasions that occurred during WW3.Economy
French Economy was reformed in various aspects to increase productivity and transition to full mobilization as they believed European War was Inevitable. These reforms were mostly around increasing welfare and job opportunities, cutting out useless jobs and pointless spending to free up resources for the coming war. Outside of those reforms, France was still the traditional European Economy with a Neo-Liberal Lense that it was before 2021. France eventually lost a fair few trading partners during the war and finally economically crashed in the later stages of the war only to be finally be finished off by the Nuclear war. There was also a period of growth for French Companies to fill the gaps left behind by the retreat of American ones from their economy.Transfer from Fossil Fuels
France put a lot of money into Nuclear power and renewable energies as they get cut off from oil and other fossil fuels. This caused disruptions in the power supply but was able to keep essential services on for most of the time.Opportunity
Living Standards increased drastically as the French were able to restart their lives and rise above their stations. While the opposition was offered. The Government was able to improve people's lives and stabilised the politics of the nation.Culture
France was also largely the same except the overall trajectory of it was leaning left instead of rightwards like the rest of the world at the time. Acceptance and Liberty were doubled down upon as such things slowly faded from the rest of the world. A Culture of stalwart Resistance also returned during the war as the French to this day refuse to bow to occupation and fight on for the Republic regardless of what happens to them.Fashion and Entertainment
France adopted a fashion of futurism and had a lot of Cyberpunkesq media coming out at the time. While their cultural Explosion was not as potent as Britain's but could have developed into a full cultural Renaissance if given enough time. A lot of it was very much considered 'pre-cyberpunk' with see-through plastics, vibrant plastics and light-up clothing but obviously lacking the Cyberware as that had yet to reach that level in France."Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" | "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity"
