Kairos

Kairos (a.k.a. Kai)

"Always remember to introduce yourself using your clearest voice. Plenty of enunciation, with lip and tongue action will allow you to be heard and understood. In fact, it might be better if I introduce you to everyone most of the time. My diction is much better than yours."
- Kairos advising Mari about proper speech

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Kairos is very obviously designed by elves, but his intricate inner workings are exceedingly complex. He believes he was originally crafted by dwarves (which would explain why he knows the language). But he has no memory of his maker or designer. While his exterior is gold, silver and gems his inner workings are of bronze and steel. Kairos keeps himself very clean and polished. He always looks presentable... even if Mari doesn't.

Special abilities

Kairos is imbued with the power to grant Mari the abilities of Spider Climb.

Specialized Equipment

Kairos can curl up around a pocket timepiece that Mari carries with her. He often does this when needing a rest, or trying to stay out of the way. It is unclear if the time piece holds any specific function for Kairos, or if he is just fond of it. The time piece itself is always accurate to where ever the holder is. While in the Shadow Realm, it ran at inconstant speed and even backwards on occasion.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Kairos was activated near the end of the Third Age. He was given to Mari Holilo when she was granted the title of Captain of the Western Wood. He was to provide advice on etiquette and protocol to the captain who had a reputation for being rather stoic and uncharismatic. He is well versed in elven traditions, customs and culture specifically around the traditions for the kingdom based on the Second Age, when the Everwood was known as the Eternal Grove.   When he was awarded, the forested land was called Elfwood, and was already a place of mystery and danger. Guardians of the Elfwood were tasked with keeping the dangers from spreading out of the woods and catching the attention of the powerful human centric Tyrian Empire. Mari excelled at her duty and rose through the ranks quickly. Eventually obtaining Kairos as a reward.   Kairos enjoyed his brief time with Mari as a helper, and keeper of historical based culture and etiquette. Unfortunately The Cataclysm caused Mari and Kairos to get pulled into the Shadow Realm. The event triggered amnesia in Mari, but Kairos only suffered from some slight defects of memory. The two managed to survive the first terrible years in the Shadow Realm, but once the Shadow Elves established settlements, Mari was able to thrive.   For a time she and Kairos were in demand, because of Kairos' knowledge of customs and culture, he became a resource for those who wanted to retain the traditions they had in Reluria. Kairos relished this and let it inflate his already considerable sense of self importance.   Kairos has been Mari's closest friend for as long as she remembers (thanks to the amnesia). He has tried on a number of occasions to help her regain her memories of the past, but hasn't had any luck.   It came to Mari's attention that Ilar Duskmight has an interest in magical artifacts from before the "expulsion" from Reluria. He thinks they may be a key to harnessing magic to aid in his desires of conquest. Mari was warned that Ilar knows of Kairos, and has mentioned obtaining him by any means necessary.

Social

Religious Views

Kairos will often call out to Osu for guidance and protection. A few of Mari's peers have wondered about this, since Kairos is a mechanism that looks like a dragon - not an actual dragon. Some suspect that maybe Kairos houses the soul of an actual dragon. Or perhaps he is delusional. None can say.
