The Couple Who Changed History

In the days pre-integration of Jizins and Qu'ma'ings on Juo and Dester, interspecies relations between them were not technically illegal but effectively were in public opinion. The high-profile story of a Jizin and Qu'ma'ing who defied all social expectations and got married was retold so many times over the following centuries it became practically a myth.
Desher Clorn-Do and Maypa Kliorklior were a Qu'ma'ing and Jizin respectively, whose jobs required officially negotiating with each other's authorities, as at the time the two species had separate governments, each trying to oppress the other. It was a very tense time in history, and each side was ruthless. However, despite the odds, Desher and Maypa managed to fall in love.
They eloped by boarding an intergalactic flight, being married on a nearby asteroid before returning home and revealing their relationship. It was met with outrage by their superiors and colleagues, and both lost their jobs. However among the scorn of most of their peers, a minority on each side stood up for them, and campaigns for peaceful co-operation began.
By the time integration was official, however, Desher and Maypa had left Juo and Dester and settled on Fablo.
