Pimelok

Pimeloks are predatory animals native to Nigloo, an icy moon that orbits Nephiglo with an average temperature of -127 degrees Celsius. The pimelok has a serpentine-shaped body covered in thick white fur, three canine-like heads, and three pairs of legs. It is the second-largest mammal on Nigloo and top of the food chain.   The average size of a pimelock is one and a half metres long, weighing 250kg. It is a formidable predator, able to see in almost any direction, turn swiftly, and gore its prey with tusks more than half the length of its face. The pimelock has a unique respiratory system which allows it to exhale air much colder than that in its own environment--the range of which can stretch to three metres--which it usually uses to stun its prey before actually attacking. As a result, it can take down the largest mammal on Nigloo, the Unsorue, which is nearly twice its size.   The pimelok feeds mainly on the few other mammal species in its ecosystem, but will eat fish if its preferred food is scarce. As with all of Nigloo's wildlife, it lives in the warmer regions of the moon, where oceans can be found. On occasions when the Niglaone have visited their planet's moon, pimelocks have opted to attack them rather than smaller prey. The first research party to visit the moon lost over half its members to pimelock attacks.   DNA from pimeloks was harvested by the crew of the Scholar III, the Niglaone ship which fell into the hands of the Solar Triad. The DNA was subsequently used in their genetic-engineering experiments. As a result, pimelocks are ancestors of jötnar and cerberuses.
