White Ridge Peak

Geography

White Ridge is a large volcano in the Rocky Mountains located in Washington, Republic of California. Nestled between other surrounding mountains, the volcano appears to be just another tall peak, the tallest in the state. The only thing giving away its true nature is that in the spring, old formations of cold lava running down the mountainside become visible from beneath the snow present at much of the year.

Localized Phenomena

White Ridge is considered to be a dormant volcano, though surveys have been conducted as to whether the peak should be considered active, as in recent years earthquake swarms and outgassing have become more common. There has been little to prove that White Ridge will erupt again soon, though the area surrounding it remains geologically active in the form of volcanic hot springs.

Tourism

The region is a well known skiing and snowboarding attraction throughout the year, as even in spring and summer, there are plentiful levels of snow for the activities at higher elevations. Hot springs in the area are also a popular attraction, as are numerous campgrounds and picnic areas in the valley.
