Mirrorlings Species in Reason's End | World Anvil

Mirrorlings

Mirrorlings are demihumans of theĀ  Ancient of Reflections, born when one hides themselves with their magic for too long. They are believed to have existed the longest of the current roster of demihumans, but it's hard to track the history of a species that you can't really see.

They are more tolerated among Mages as their behaviour is generally more human like if only a bit loopy or mischievous compared to most demihumans.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They look like their former human selves, but only when you see their reflection. Their actual bodies are completely invisible.

Biological Traits

All Mirrorlings can innately merge into reflective surfaces and travel through them.

Genetics and Reproduction

They're capable of reproduction, even with baseline humans. Working out the logistics of such an act where one or both partners can't see the other tends to suck the fun out of otherwise intimate moments though (although some find that to be hot). A successful birth will always result in a Mirrorling.

Ecology and Habitats

Mirrorlings are dependent on the presence of reflective surfaces to survive. They are most commonly found in cities and their Alternates with their large presence of actual mirrors, glass, and other reflective surfaces.
They are also commonly found in the Mirrorworld.
It is unheard of to find a Mirrorling in nature due to the only reflective surfaces being water and ice, neither of which make good mirrors.

Behaviour

A somewhat popular trait of their kind is that they are rather exhibitionistic, as mirror woven clothes are a bit of a recent development and to fully maximise their abilities they have lived a nudist lifestyle for centuries.
