Sub-plot: Unholy Orders

Plot

In the town of Pervoshi, Bishop Boyan Svetnik is a beacon of integrity and beloved by his people. However, his incorruptibility has made him a problematic figure for the Patriarchy's leadership. Viewing him as a significant obstacle to their influence, the Patriarchate has resolved that Bishop Svetnik must be discreetly eliminated to strenghten their hold on the town. To execute this delicate task, they have sent Mikail Sila, one of their most skilled and ruthless operatives, to Pervoshi. His mission is to ''remove'' the Bishop in a manner subtle enough to avoid inciting the wrath of the townspeople who revere him.

Options

Players have the choice to either align with the Svozno Patriarchate or oppose them by taking sides in the fate of Bishop Boyan Svetnik.
  • Support the Patriarchate: Players can collaborate with Mikail Sila, the Patriarchate's enforcer, in a clandestine operation to eliminate the Bishop. This can be achieved through a strategic plot to either lure the Bishop into a vulnerable position for an ambush, carry out a direct assassination within the sanctity of the monastery, or frame him of something horrid which would destroy his reputation with his people and result in his exile. Each method requires careful planning and discretion to avoid arousing suspicion among the townspeople who hold the Bishop in high esteem. Inciting their ire would be catastrophic for the Patriarchate's future efforts in the town.
  • Defend the Bishop: Alternatively, players may arrive in Pervoshi drawn by tales of the Bishop’s virtuous leadership, hearing of his potential alliance with princess Sara. In this route, players find themselves entangled in a counterplot where Mikail Sila becomes the antagonist. The objective is to uncover and thwart Mikail's plans without alarming and spooking him in to hiding, otherwise he may return at a later time with all of his assets still intact and undiscovered. Players may choose to subtly neutralize the threat posed by Mikail through sabotage and make him abandon his efforts, and/or decisively corner him into a confrontation.

Resolutions

Patriarchate's Success

Should the Patriarchate succeed through Mikail's machinations, the consequences are dire for Bishop Boyan Svetnik. Depending on Mikail's approach, Boyan would be either coerced into leaving Pervoshi or meet a more sinister fate. With Boyan removed, the Patriarchate swiftly installs a new Bishop loyal to their cause. This strategic maneuver secures their influence over Pervoshi, a town in relative close proximity to the capital and which is renowned for it's valuable mining industry, bolstering their campaign against Princess Sara's ascension to the throne.

Patriarchate's Failure

If the Patriarchate's scheme is publicly exposed or if Boyan's death is traced back to them, the town of Pervoshi reacts with outrage. The revelation incites a riot, forcing Mikail to flee and solidifying the town's allegiance to the loyalist cause championed by Princess Sara. However, the remnants of Mikail’s network linger, leaving open the possibility for future sabotage and espionage from these hidden assets.

Successful Protection

If players manage to subtly sabotage Mikail's plans and systematically uncover and neutralize his network, Mikail finds himself increasingly cornered. Eventually, stripped of options and safe havens, he abandons his mission in Pervoshi. Players are then presented with a choice: confront Mikail directly, potentially defeating him in a duel, or allow him to escape.

Note:

Plot armor: Mikail Sila should survive any encounter and escape due to re-appearing in other plots.
