Stability Committee

As the events of The Chaos continued to worsen and worsen over time, humans, Neohumans and Exos alike were looking for a way to find some kind of balance. More and more frequent potentially disastrous Neohuman abilities were manifesting during the early 60's and violent conflicts between Human and Neohuman groups were becoming more common.   Behind the scenes a small group of powerful Neohumans met and made a plan. They would work in concert to force a major shift in reality towards balance, and because as a collective they would be more powerful than any single or smaller group trying to circumvent the new "Baseline Reality" would be overwhelmed and pushed back, at least over time. The Committee had the island of Avskildhet created from the bottom of the sea and raised up to house the Plinth, which would serve as the home and meeting place of the Committee.   Membership in the Stability Committee is a tightly guarded secret to avoid temptation and danger to members. It is rumored that any member of the Committee leaving the Plith willingly undergoes a memory edit to prevent them from recalling their status with the Committee until they return. This has led to open speculation about anyone that is known to frequent Avskildhet in regards to their association with the Committee.   While many complain about the influence or unknown agendas of the Committee, their track record of growth and lack of world-wide conflict for the past nearly 60 years is a hard thing to argue against. It is further difficult to argue against an organization Additionally the Committee has been clear on the tenants it forces compliance with, to the point that the following list is carved into the side of the Plith in letters 25 ft. tall that appear to be in the native language of whomever reads them, known as the "Reciprocity Rules of 69".   It is well known that the Stability Committee either does not, or cannot, alter reality to the point of abolishing individual free-will, but only enforce their rules on the level of nation-states and megacorporations. The stated mission of the Stability Committee is to allow as much freedom and free-will as possible, while preventing the escalation of events to the point that society would collapse. Many commentators relate this to "society with guard rails".   Given the impossibly tight security at the Plinth, it is impossible to tell with complete confidence how often, if at all, the membership of the Committee changes, although one would expect to have had some turnover in the last 60 years.
