A Heroic Wager - Part 3 Report

General Summary

The first order of business for our heroes was to request to know what the rules of the game were. Flux was provided with a rolled up "brochure" that laid out the lengthy volume of rules. Copies of this apparently handwritten original were generated and distributed among the group. However reluctantly the group descended to the rebel encampment.   The rebels started to raise some kind of illusory cover, but quick thinking by Sam relayed a message via the landing lights. The landing on the delapidated airstrip wound up breaking the front landing gear and crashing the plane. The members of the resistance were hesitant but hopeful at these obvious 'varaints' of the F.U.C.K.S. that run the world. It was quickly assessed that Reality 88 did vary significantly from the heroes home Reality. These differences appear to have been heavily exploited by the F.U.C.K.S. to opress and repress the primarily Neohuman population.   Much of this issue was spent getting a grasp of the world around them and the state of the resistance. Due to the near absolute control of the overarching Internet by C.O.L.U.M.B.O., most attempts at establishing a real resistance 'network' have been destroyed within six months. There are numerous independent cells of the Resistance scattered across the world, but there has not been a figure to rise up and organize these cells into something greater. Attempts have been made but this game of 'whack-a-mole' with the F.U.C.K.S. is lethal, and most potential catalyst leaders have been taken care of quicker than the networks that were supporting them.   Coyote immediately began working with known teleporters (particularly Audrey Murphy, the teleporter and logistics manager for the Midwest cell) to become familiar with teleportation locations for other known cells. It was mentioned that the reason that no one really had built up a big network of teleporters that know everyone's location was security concerns should they fall under mind control of some sort. Nevertheless, Coyote became familiar with at least a half dozen cells over the Western Hemisphere and Europe.   Similarly Amoxi began building up diplomatic relations with the Midwest cell and some other cells, reviving his primary role with the C.U.N.T.S and Karen back home. These efforts went a long way towards getting people over the groups visual similarities to the F.U.C.K.S.   Sam and Maelstrom worked with the leadership, such as it is, of the Midwest cell to keep an eye on what was being reported on the news and healing from their severe wounds. They also worked with the other members of the cell, following Amoxi's example to help break down barriers with the rest of the resistance.   Flux dedicated their time to improving the conditions of the base, hardening it from both arcane and technological observations as well as making the interiors significantly more comfortable.   Cassiopeia, Coyote, Maelstrom and Simon MacGyver (the K.A.R.E.N. pilot) drove to Indianapolis, the nearest mid-sized city to the resistance base. There Cassiopeia and Maelstrom, as her security, introduced themselves to the clergy at the Cathedral of the Blessed Shine. They were handed off to Sister Mary Francis, who was happy to expound on the various charity and support efforts the church supports and how Cassi, under the guise of Cassi Simmons, could get involved. The cover story was given that Ms. Simmons was to be moving to town in the next month or so and were active members of their old church in California and wanted to be similarly involved in their new diocese. While in town, they also saw advertisements for the upcoming "Give a F.U.C.K.S. day", a July 4th kind of celebration of patriotism and idolatry for the F.U.C.K.S., is only three days away (Sunday, November 5 2023).   Hellfire requested that the rebels put her in touch with someone that could answer questions about folklore and ancient history. A strange middle-aged, dignified man that introduced himself as Doctor Weird opened a portal into her quarters the next day. They had an extended conversation about what Doctor Weird knew about the idol mentioned in the rules. Several times he mentioned that it wasn't a real thing, that it was a old witch's tale, a fool's errand. He mentioned there were two groups that he knew of in the last century or so that had gone looking for it only to wind up mad, dead, or vanished. One was the Triumvirate of Mystery who vanished from somewhere in northern China back in the late sixties, and the other was a sorceress known as Morgan Le Fey back in the early twenties. Morgan was looking for the head of the idol. The three peices of the idol are supposedly the head, the torso and the legs & tail. The only hints as to the location of the 'Veiled Mission' or Hidden Temple were that it last stood at the heart of Pangea. Just as he was about to leave Doctor Weird noticed her brand and told her to watch out for Morris M'monn, the Atlantean Manhunter.   A lot of information was gathered by the group and a fairly secure base and start of a worldwide resistance already gives them a good foothold, but how long will that last when the F.U.C.K.S. start to actively work against them.
