Grus Beardsley is a former pirate who is now retired and owns the The Final Voyage Inn. This tavern is famed for being a ship that hangs from Fonvelenors trees, having been caught up there in a magical accident.
The Sunmerel Isles
Hailing originally from The Sunmerel Isles, Grus was a pirate but only in his his childhood. He is the son of the famed pirate Berkon Beardsley, the dreaded captain of the Drunken Pearl pirate ship. This ship was where Grus grew up, and he was present to see what happened to it.
A Destroyed Legacy
In a somewhat embellished turn of events. The Drunken Pearl was destroyed and refitted into the Inn that Grus now owns. The event left him unable to use his legs and it wasn't until he was rescued from the trees by Dawnroot Watch members that he had realised the full extent of what befell his father and crew. He is now retired and tells stories of pirate tales to his guests, while his business partner Harold Highmoon runs the Inn.
The Tale of Berkon Beardsley
As he tells it to his guests, this is how Grus describes what befell his ship and crew:
The ship got to Envenir when Berkon Beardsley entered combat in a whirlpool with a mighty Kraken, the ship was dragged into the whirlpool and spat out into a strange world where everything floated in a sea of never ending stars. Berkon killed the kraken in this starry realm and in doing so was killed. The ship sailed the stars until it eventually was spat out above the Forest of Fonvelenor, where it got stuck in a tree as it came crashing to the ground.
Due to this story, they serve calamari as a house special.
Interactions with The Nameless Ones:
Grus was the host to The Nameless Ones while they stayed in Envenir. He shared stories of the Inn's origins and bought them a round of drinks.
