Nightveil
Demographics
Nightveil houses the Dimir elite. By the guild's nature, these can be any race or species.
Government
Nightveil lies in the Undercity, outside of most legal jurisdictions. Its internal power structure is unknown.
Show Spoiler
Nightveil is run by a mayor and town council. The council members elect the mayor from their ranks, and the citizens elect council members.
Defences
The only known defenses are memory wards preventing its location from being revealed.
Show Spoiler
In addition to the memory glyphs in the surrounding terrain, Dimir assassins act as a police force and protection coterie.
Industry & Trade
Those concerned assume Nightveil is self-sufficient, as there are no business records with the neighborhood. There is no way to know if those memories would be permitted to persist.
Show Spoiler
Whatever cannot be grown, mined, or built within the village, Dimir runners sneak in through hidden channels.
Infrastructure
There are no official records of construction or maintenance for any neighborhood called Nightveil.
Show Spoiler
Nightveil operates without the benefits of the Izzet cityworks. It relies on fire for heat, bioluminescent lichens for light, and nearby bodies of water. When the village was a part of the city proper, canals ran through the main thoroughfares. They have cracked and dried, but their bridges are functional and maintained, allowed for foot and cart passage.
Guilds and Factions
House Dimir is the only known associate of the neighborhood.
History
Nightveil was once a wealthy neighborhood in the Tenth District. As the city grew and expanded on top of it, it lay wasted and forgotten. At some point, Szadek repurposed it for his needs. Most assume Duskmantle lies somewhere within, but there is no substance to this belief.
Architecture
Show Spoiler
Mansions built of blue-grey stone nestle between cottages of similar construction. Crafters, artisans, and shopkeepers sell their wares from their houses or permanent stalls within a nearby plaza. Cave-growing trees line the roads, while stone statues provide adornment in the square and pleasure gardens. The canals that crisscross the city are cracked and dry. Local gardeners cultivate colorful lichen beds within them.
Geography
Show Spoiler
Nightveil lies within a massive cavern. If ever it was open to the surrounding world, debris and natural formations have closed it off.
Natural Resources
Show Spoiler
A lake just outside the bounds of the neighborhood provides fish and fresh water to its citizens. The stone produced in the surrounding caverns is found nowhere else in Ravnica, but Nightveil citizens would rather have their privacy than a famous quarry.
