The Fanes

An ancient trio of divine beings that, together, fully represent the spirit and metaphysical soul of Barovia. Any would-be ruler of the land must go through the old ritual binding their mortal soul to the Fanes themselves to be truly recognized. When Strahd von Zarovich killed his brother and finished turning into a vampire, the bond he had with them twisted and turned sour. After a wandering Party of Adventurers forcibly broke that bond, it was able to reform without issue to the original part of the soul it had bonded to, The Alchemist, giving him the powers he once enjoyed in the Prime Material Plane.
Where exactly each Fane ends and the other begins is unclear, to the point where people have wondered if there are really three or just one.
