NemeN Character in Ravare | World Anvil

NemeN (/neh:men/)

The Thousand-Mile-Soul

Overview

NemeN is one of the most powerful Exarchs on Marus with an origin entwined with the Kaelic Sailors of old. While Jelilibad one day became revered for the building of ships, her counterpart rose to prominence among those who travel the Realm of Seas. As a pioneer of Shipcraft, NemeN is said to be the first being to chart the Realm's vast seas and map the paths of the celestial bodies above. The God of Voyagers became revered across every corner of Marus and rose to become synonymous with not just ship travel, but trade, and the flow of civilization itself. For he who controls the winds and sails controls the heart of civilization itself in the Realm of Seas. When Caydon Rel ascended, the Thousand-Mile-Soul was a stabilizing force that kept the fractured world that ensued from crumbling away entirely. His watchful presence continues to grace the people of the Sea of Brass, bringing comfort and a steady favorable wind to steer his faithful.

Only the Goddess of Veils can rival the awe-inspiring power of the Thousand-Mile-Soul. His presence is so vast, yet expertly wielded, that its existence is as synonymous with the wind in the Sea of Brass. Only the phenomenon known as the Eye of NemeN is a more fiersome display of our patron Exarch's feirsome presence and seemingly limitless perception.

History

The history of NemeN is shrouded in myth and legend, obscuring any truth within the mystery of lost history. Stories told of his exploits range from the improbable to the impossible with few constants beyond his humble beginnings as a ship's captain. He became more than a legend when he successfully mapped the movements of the moons and sun, allowing him to chart the ancient seas of Marus long before Caydon Rel ascended. He was known for his fairness and the truth of his few words. When the world was remade, he continued to guide the those who traveled the seas, ensuring that a dark age would not befall the entire Realm. He was the founding force behind the Seabound Covenant that established law and order following the Lord of Magic's ascension. In the following centuries he became synonymous with civilization itself, acting like the vital heart of a network of interconnected blood vessels keeping the world turning for Marus' people.

Holy Symbol
Represented by a great emerald sloop with elaborate sails of gold and emroidered bronze. The emerald ship is believed to represent the original vessel used by the Divine to chart the Realm's waters while its elaborate gilded sails symbolize the wealth produced by his faithful.

Tenants of Faith

The worshippers of the Thousand-Mile-Soul are found across nearly every sea and culture that can be found on Marus. His firm doctrine is the work of core pillars established within every unique adaptation of his otherwise unestablished Faith.

  1. Trust. Doubt Not What You Witness With Your Own Two Eyes.
  2. Explore. Look To The Horizon And The Horizon Beyond That.
  3. Trade. Be Honest And Fair In All Of Your Dealings.

Holy places devoted to the Thousand-Mile-Soul are numerous and exist all over the world. These sacred houses of coin are the heart of modern currency and often resemble banking institutions or trade houses rather than hallowed temples.

Description & Depictions

NemeN is always depicted as a burly man of middling age, whose stalky build and confident posture gives him the bearing of a captain at the helm. His wild mane of onyx hair and the wirey beard covering his jaw frames a worn face chiseled by years under the brutal sun. His sailor's eyes glisten like a set of perfect blue pearls with the depth and endlessness of the ocean's horizon, making you feel compelled to heed his wise words. He is usually shown wearing a heavy captain's coat draped over finely-tailored linen attire in vibrant shades of blue and green. His hands were scared from years of hard labor, one resting atop a map case hanging braided rope while the other clutches a spyglass made of emerald and gold.
