Lumberstone

An extremely uncommon type of wood derived from the Northern White Pine Trees north of the Frostfort Mountains.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Lumberstone resembles other lumber created from pine trees. The difference will be that lumberstone is nearly white, looking closer to the color of snow. Even the bark of the Northern White Pine tree is fairly white with light brown or grey blemishes or ridges.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The trees do take more durable tools or magical means to cut down and process due to the dense properties of the wood. The resulting lumber is incredibly durable and strong, though it feels just like other lumber. One difference is the substantially lighter weight compared to other wood.

Geology & Geography

The Northern White Pine trees that Lumberstone comes from are only found north of the Frostfort Mountains. Long ago the trees grew all along the southern and western edges of the mountain range as well. These forests were cut down and used by ice giants, humans, and dwarves in the region. This did enough to the southern and western forests that the trees were wiped from the area and replaced by other trees and plant life. The northern forest was protected at this point and kept safe as a vital resource for the Kingdom of the Northern Fyre.

Life & Expiration

Lumberstone can see more deterioration than stone, but it lasts much longer than other wood materials.

History & Usage

History

It is known worldwide that Lumberstone is produced in the Kingdom of the Northern Fyre and has been since almost the beginning of Everwinter. It was first known by nearby snow elves and the ice giants of the Frostfort Mountain range. This information was also gained as the territory was settled by more burgeoning populations. This led to the near extinction of the Northern White Pine tree, only being save by an agreement made between elves and humans in the area which the city of White Pine now resides.

Discovery

There are ancient records and spoken accounts of this discovery, made by both snow elves and ice giants, in the first age (1100-2100). This process was not tied to any sort of mass production until Everwinter began harvesting the material.

Everyday use

Building materials for public structures, wealthier residences and private businesses, industrial uses near heat if wood is acceptable or desired.

Cultural Significance and Usage

There are totems and idols made of lumberstone that are used in snow elf culture as milestones in their life.

Industrial Use

It is treated as all lumber is. This process does take slightly longer and the sour odor can be overwhelming with a large quantity in a smaller or closed environment.

Manufacturing & Products

Used for tools and weapons as it can increase the life and quality of the item, as well as reduce the weight.

Distribution

Trade & Market

This is classified as a luxury item due to its rarity. This is compounded by the distance in which the product travels. Even in the capital city Everwinter of the Kingdom of Northern Fyre, lumberstone is only used on the residential homes of the wealthy, as a symbol of status.
