Fyre Frost Castle

From a distance a traveler new to Everwinter may notice the spires and other typical features of the lord's castle in this large capital city. Only upon closer inspection, or a glance from a very keen eye, would one notice the rough-hewn frost at the base of the castle or the columns made of shimmering rock and ice the play with the light bouncing from the white snow at the base of the Frostfort mountains. It may appear to be an unkept mess of frost and snow in this frigidly enchanted area of the Newflur and Ridgefall regions, but those who know the stories of Everwinter's founding understand that Frost Fyre Castle was built from the frost giant castle that stood as the stronghold of one of the world's most fearsome frost giant tyrants. Any guests that visit the grounds are in awe of the size of the halls, sculpted by giant, elf, and man, and how the architecture from the races are present and integrated.

Purpose / Function

During the time of the frost giant King Arrg'hun's rule the area surrounding the Frostfort mountains was under constant threat of giant attacks. The frost giant tyrant was feared by all, no matter the race or status, for so powerful was he that he had imbued the mountains and surrounding lands with frigid properties that would forever keep these lands frozen and cold. This castle was constructed out of the cave that his people had live in for centuries, and served as the base of operations for his many assaults. It was dubbed the Frostfort Keep.   After the giants were finally defeated this still served as a base, but now for the budding human-elven-dwarven city of Everwinter.

Alterations

The giant's castle and cave complex saw human and elf structures built throughout it. Much of the giant architecture is still on display to wow visitors, there are large and open rooms, jagged parapets, and large sitting areas that have seen renovations for use of the medium sized creatures that now inhabit the grounds. The giant's throne has steps leading up to its seat where the ruler of Everwinter has his throne, a tradition since the sacking of the giant stronghold. The humans and elves that worked on the castle's construction fortified its walls, built more comfortable lodgings within, and blended the standard stone structures into the rough-hewn walls of ice and stone. It has the appearance of a castle surrounded by a harsh and icy avalanche.

Architecture

The entrance of the castle is lined with a small human wall approximately five feet tall. These walls are joined by a tall archway that would comfortable allow a giant to walk beneath it. The walls butt up against the exterior wall of the castle which is made of natural rock and Ever-Ice, on days when the sun is bright the Ever-Ice seems to put off a fog, at times generating ice fog, into the courtyard. The giant architecture all still remain and serve as the outside of much of Fyre Frost castle. There are also large rooms that would suit giants that are still used by the royal family. Some of these rooms have been renovated with human or elven features to fit many smaller rooms inside them. There are a few human towers, but about five elven towers are spread about the castle and have higher vantage points.

History

The frost giant castle underwent a few centuries of renovations until it finally seems to be finished. Since then the king or queen may redecorate a room here or there, but nothing dramatic has changed since then. There was a modification in security about 300 years after those original renovations were done, but nothing too drastic to the structure itself.

Tourism

Most people would only be able to see the castle from a distance, but the combination of human and elven structures rising from the permanently frozen and twinkling blue of Ever-Ice is a sight to beheld.
