Crow
Walking toward the park, I heard the raucaus call of the crow. I looked around and found it on a chimney across the road. "Hello," I said respectfully. I have heard that if you make either a friend, or an enemy of a crow, it's for life and it will apply to the entire murder as well. Unlike some, I have always have a soft spot for the corvids. Yes, they are frightening little neo-dinosaurs, and smarter than you'd really like from something that looks at you with black eyes, but that's also their charm.
After paying my respects, I continued on my way. A crow flew across my path and settled in the lawn of the house I was passing. I nodded to it and continued on my way, not sure if it was the same crow or another. Two more houses down and another corvid called out for my attention. "Hello handsome and/or beautiful," I said as it tilted it's head to watch me walk past.
Things continued that way all the way to the park. Once I entered the park my escort broke away. It wasn't the first time I'd been followed by crows so I wasn't surprised. The park is the home of their larger neo-dino kin, the herons. If you've never heard the sound of a heron you really need to look up a recording on the interwebs because in the near-dark of dawn it is a truly frightening sound.
I circled the pond and began on my way home only to find my escort awaiting me. They walked me home flitting from roof to road to chimney. I entered my house and they went on their way.
What does it mean to be escorted by crows?
Crows in real life ire incredibly intelligent compared to other birds. To the point of holding grudges, and spreading that gossip through the entire flock. I've heard several stories of people who angered one crow, and now an entire flock proceeds to bother them. I don't think I've ever heard of a crow escorting someone before. This was quite interesting to read.
When I move I always inform my crows where I am going in case they want to join me there. When I moved cross country, I would sweat I heard the same crows. I know that sounds odd, but there were most definitely two 'accents' once we got there.
That's actually really cool.
