Dream Daisies

Dream daisies are a shimmering blue wildflower found throughout the dreaming marsh, dreaming river, and surrounding areas. The pollen of dream daisies has an intoxicating effect, which attracts revelers and hedonists, but it also distracts travelers and leads them astray. Stories and myths abound of people who become too intoxicated and were lost forever among the flowers, but many elves mock these stories.

Appearance

The petals of dream daisies are blue and translucent, and that translucency creates an unsettling shimmering effect when a cluster of flowers is rustled. The flowers grow low to the ground and can be hard to spot. The daisies' pollen is also translucent, and in moonlight or torchlight the pollen tends to flicker as it tumbles through the air.

Habitat

Dream daisies are a hardy weed, able to grow even in poor conditions. Sunlit plains, deep shaded forests, dry deserts, and wet marshes can all sprout clusters of dream daisies, which are difficult to eradicate. Although elfoids have few methods of getting rid of the daisies, clusters are known to spontaneously become blighted and die out. This makes it difficult to keep up-to-date maps of where the weed has sprouted.

Uses

Ceremonies

Several elven traditions involve the community travelling to a field of dream daisies for revelry and ceremony. In addition to making such occasions more enjoyable, the intoxicating effect can sometimes cause elves to experience religious ecstasy.

Intoxicant

The intoxicating effects of the daisies are desired by a variety of species, both in the raw natural form and in several processed forms. Powerful but disabling intoxicants can be made from the daisies' flowers, most of which the Order of the Moonbow has banned.   Wild animals and monsters are known to be attracted to the pollen-soaked areas around daisy clusters, making harvesting them even more dangerous. Fae creatures also seem to take a particular interest in the flowers.

Hazards

Each day that a party of characters travels through an area with dream daisies, each character must make a DC 10 Intelligence saving throw. Elves and half-elves suffer from their Fey Ancestry on this saving throw.   If at least half the party (rounding down) succeeds on their saving throw, the party may make a navigation check as normal. Otherwise, the party automatically fails their navigation check and becomes lost. Additionally, the party cannot forage or do any other travel activities for the rest of the day.   Locating a cluster of dream daisies requires a DC 20 Wisdom check. Noticing pollen in the air requires a DC 15 Wisdom check, and characters have advantage on the check if the area is moonlit, torchlit, or otherwise dimly lit.
