Cold Iron Material in Rakvalinor | World Anvil

Cold Iron

The forging of cold iron is a secret kept by the giants, occasionally revealed to one of a handful of legendary dwarven smiths over the millennia. Cold iron is especially effective against fey and many of the creatures native to Rakvalinor, and the giants wielded cold iron to devastating effect in their ancient wars against the elves.   Elves and fey creatures (but not giants) feel a deeply uncomfortable burning pain when they touch or carry cold iron items.

Cold Iron Armor

While wearing cold iron armor, psychic and force damage you take is reduced by 3, as is any other damage you take from:
  • Fey creatures
  • Elves
  • Giants
  • If the armor is heavy armor the damage is reduced by 5 instead.   While in the Feywild, all types of cold iron armor cause disadvantage on stealth checks.

    Cold Iron Holy Symbol

If you're a cleric or paladin wielding a holy symbol made of cold iron, you can use your channel divinity features against fey creatures, elves, and giants. Giants get advantage on their saving throws against your channel divinity features.   If you're a cleric or paladin carrying a holy symbol made of cold iron, when you hit a fey creature, an elf, or a giant with your divine smite or divine strike feature, you can reroll up to two of your radiant damage d8s.

    Cold Iron Spell Focus

When a spell is cast with a focus made of cold iron, the saving throw DC is increased by 3 for saving throws made by:
  • Fey creatures
  • Elves
  • Giants
