History
The Ruby Kingdoms is a land devastated by the Moon’s Cry over 1700 years ago. When the hordes of The Gloom descended from the moon, the shields of Yggdrasil meant that a vast majority of these foul beings, some of the most deadly, landed squarely upon the Ruby Kingdoms. With no preparation, and a military stretched to the breaking point, the hordes summarily ravaged the landscape. Only those lucky and cowardly enough were able to evade the onslaught.
It is these holdouts of humanity in a desolate world that became the regional powers that remain today. Growing into small city-states, the memories of the past slowly becoming easier to conquer back with stronger forces, these people began to war with the Gloom, pushing it beyond the Bloodborder. But there were no alliances here. As the world began to redevelop, these nations feuded in countless bickering wars, always hungry for more land or resources to sustain themselves. The only thing that united these petty nations were hordes of The Gloom, and outside incursions; they were no fools when they saw a bigger threat.
When the Holy Empire approached, it was then only King Godwyn - First of The Line, Guardian of Blaze, and The Preserver - who sought to unite the Ruby Kingdoms under a single banner. He united the armies and the citizenry of all the nations in the realm to hold back the new hordes from the west. And through their vigilance, it was a success: despite the countless attempts at invasion, none succeeded.
The Ruby Kingdoms are now a desperately diverse place, cobbling together an existence that is austere, strong willed, and defiant. Although the nation continues to bicker in its own way, the Seven Kingdoms that unite this land remain stalwart in the protection of their home, because it is all that they have left.
