Urtag
One of The Old Gods of Quel.
Urtag is the patron god of the hunt in all its forms, and he is honored by those whose occupations are concerned with pursuit and discovery. His faithful include frontiersmen, constables, treasure-seekers, explorers, and even scholars, many of whom wear his carved symbol – a wolf's head – around their wrist or neck. He is also protector of wild places and untamed wilderness, where the hunt manifests in its purest form as a daily struggle for survival. As such, the followers of Urtag hold respect of prey by predators as a high virtue – after all, one may become the other at any moment.
No other nation on Arathel honors Urtag as highly as Khahad, where the hunt decides the rise and fall of cities and social groups. The harsh, dry landscape is home to few large game and many dangerous creatures that use camouflage to surprise their victims. Among the Khahadan, there are reports of coming of age rituals and cultural norms that are reflections of Urtag's commandments to his followers. Other devoted followers of Urtag are often members of tribal peoples where social advancement is tied to martial skill.
