Keres

One of The Old Gods of Quel.

Warfare, conflict, and destruction are the domains of Keres. In its teachings (delivered through visions awarded to storied warriors and combatants across millennia), Keres provides a complicated view of warfare and dealing with ones enemies. Many interpret Keres' teachings as supporting destruction and chaos, causing many denizens of Quel to claim that Keres must be a demon who escaped from the Abyss and infiltrated the plane of the Gods of Arathel. Yet others claim that Keres' teachings actually provide a way to master the hidden part of all creatures that strives to control and subdue those around them through physical force. A third interpretation suggests that Keres' true goal is to fuel society's evolution by tearing down barriers and forcing innovation through rebirth and rebuilding.  Throughout history, worshipers of Keres have ranged from cults of chaos to societies of intellectual warriors working toward a refined interpretation of Keres' teachings.

The Clergy of Keres are warrior monks. They isolate themselves in hidden abbeys and train their martial skills for the time when war breaks out. Their intensive training makes them formidable combatants. Combined with the desire to destroy instilled by their god, The Clergy (as they are known) can easily defeat most mortal opponents, and often groups of opponents. At a time of war, the Clergy are in high demand by both sides. Unconcerned with the "rightness" or "morality" or a conflict, members of The Clergy are often found fighting on both sides. They only law they care about is the law of the battlefield and they will not betray or be swayed to give up a cause once they have dedicated themselves to it. In addition to The Clergy, which is made up of a mix of mostly humans, dwarves, and dragonborn, there are few adherents to Keres in times of peace. However, nearly all on the battlefield pray to him in times of war.
