The Magrocain

The Magrocain is an order of chameleon Lizardfolk who serve as a spiritual leader for each village or tribe of the species.

Priesthood

Unlike the the other dimorphisms of Lizardfolk tribes, chameleon-folk can be hatched into any village regardless of parent's heritage. This event is very rare, occurring maybe once every fifty years or so. During early childhood, the chameleon hatchling is raised by their parents, but often shadows the current Magrocain learning the foundation of their inevitable role. Roughly around the age of ten, the hatchling begins their first trial as a Magrocain, and must leave their village on their own in search of the monastery the lies in the heart of Lizardfolk territory. If they should reach their destination, their formal monastic education begins. When a village's current Magrocain is close to death, a new one is selected from the monastery and send to begin the transition process. How the monastery knows its time for the transition to take place or who will be the new Magrocain is unknown, but this phenomenon has occurred for centuries.
