As the bulk of the attacks were concentrated in the Eternal Frost, due to the close proximity of settled life, the Frostborn were the first to encounter the might of the Dragons. Many village and farm were burned to cinders in the first year of the new reign of Dragons, with little successful hunts. After a year had passed, the tribes of Frostborn gathered together their finest warriors to find their nest and destroy it in the hopes of stopping the attacks. Sigtrygg, Ingirun, and Valbrand were chosen for their successful hunts of lesser Dragons. They ventured to the newly formed Draken Summits to find the nest, but came across an adult Dragon. After a bloody battle, Valbrand, alone, slayed the Dragon. Believing that he would succumb to his wounds, he rested on the Dragons corpse and waited for death. To his surprise, however, he felt the soul and essence of the Dragon enter and change him. His wounds quickly healed and his senses increased a hundred fold. It was later found that his soul had fused with the soul of the Dragon, gaining it's senses, strength, agelessness, and knowledge. Though many had tried afterward, quickly learning the ways of Dragon hunting, they were not able to absorb their essences. It is believed that the mantle of Dragonslayer is bestowed upon those who are deemed worthy by Bjornulf, the Hunter. For this, the tribes of the Eternal Frost elected to make the title of Dragonslayer the title of "Styrg Holtyafa", leader of the unified tribes. After some time, the Frostborn became adept at hunting for Dragons, and quickly adopted the act as a rite of passage for a young Frostborn to enter into adulthood at the age of fourteen in a ritual called "Blooding a Scale." Due to this, the Frostborn began to see the Dragons as less of a monster, and more of a worthy adversary to be respected. There has never been more than one Dragonslayer at a time, and despite their immortality, none have lived to see the end of an era
