Kashera

Kashera is the most junior member of The Four, key advisors to the King of Qal'ath. Despite her position as, effectively, The Fourth, she is the chief Archaeologist of the Realm.

Meaning of Her Name

While many Common Tongue names have no clear historical root, Kashera's does. It is derived from the following Foyiitùn roots:
  • Kasz: to hide.
  • Kàsa: underneath, under.
  • Erd: ground, soil, floor.
So her name means Hidden Underground or Hide Underground. Whether that was a name given once the child had shown an interest in certain things, foresight or simple chance, it has become a "self-fulfilling prophecy". She is passionate about preserving the past through archaeology, and learning from its mistakes to build a better future.

From Foyiitùn to Common Tongue

After the Foyiitùn Language Ban Edict, many Foyii sounds were rewritten. For example, sz became sh and many accented letters had those accents removed.   It is likely that, whoever named her, wanted her full first name to be Kasz-kàserà, Kàszerà or similar.

Familiarity

To anyone close to Kashera, she was sometimes known as Kashy, or Kasha. This shortened form was earned as a child who became very adept at hiding games.
