New Year's Resolutions 2025

To be perfectly honest with you, I have no clue how we made it all the way to 2025. Last year was a complete blur, I still feel somewhat stuck in a survival mode and I am not really sure I have the means and the energy to crawl out of there just yet. But I do really miss worldbuilding and writing in general and more than anything I would like to carve out some extra time for it, despite everything being... insane. All while knowing it will totally get worse, because that is just the direction things are going in 2025 and that is just how life is sometimes.

But you know what, all storms will pass one day and the sunlight shall return.

Here is to a brighter tomorrow for everyone!

Goals and Ambitions for 2025

"Be better than you were last year."
— Me to Myself right now and every day

Technically, I only have this one resolution, because whenever I sit down to write some goals or even a simple to-do list, I tend to be way too ambitious and then I get mad at myself for not achieving even half of it, because a day on our planet does not have 40 hours like I would need. Betrayal.

So in order to defeat my evil brain goblins and not to wake up one day, finding myself in 2026 somehow, still miserable, demotivated and feeling like I have not achieved anything at all, I will take it the only way it makes sense for me.

One step at a time.

I really loved seeing some detailed last year recaps in other resolution articles that were submitted to the challenge, and I would like to create a space here in my own silly little article, to monitor my progress and to prove to myself, that even when things are tough, I can still progress on my own creative journey, little by little, and move towards something amazing. Something I can be proud of.

Therefore I will be including a monthly checklist in the side bar, only including the step that I am working on right now and maybe, just maybe, it will give me the courage that I need not to give up. I would also like to include my favourite articles each month at the bottom and some stats that I have full control of (because who does not love stats) to challenge myself to keep improving.

Reading Challenge

Usually, I just let the dice decide and pick some absolutely random articles to explore and meet some new talented people here on WorldAnvil. This time, however, I have decided to revisit the most followed worlds that we have here (Dimitris published a list on Discord in February 2024 if you want to take a peak), because my heart was craving some good old nostalgia.

I mean it!

We all know that follows on the internet are not the end all and be all of quality or popularity or what have you and it is absolutely not my intention to blindly race after numbers (or to encourage anyone to do so). But one of the main reasons why these worlds have been beloved by so many over the years, is simply that they are such rich and wonderful sources of inspiration and they have captured the interest of not just readers, but many worldbuilders that dwell here at the anvil, working hard on their own things.

As I sit here, typing, struggling to re-ignite the spark of creativity that was once burning bright, I honestly believe that revisiting these worlds will feel like a good nourishing comfort soup for my soul.

Which is precisely what I need right now.

Duck Cane
Item | Feb 22, 2024

Common duck merchandise sold during the annual Duck Sum Upping.

Dark-Fall is still one of my absolutely favourite worlds here and it never cease to surprise me with little golden treasures. Duck Cane was an awesome reminder that it's good to be a silly goose - oh, pardon me - a silly duck sometimes and weave into your worldbuilding when inspiration calls. It's good to twist the prompts of any challenge and explore where they can lead you, even if it is a little goofy.

Character | Nov 15, 2024

She who would reshape the world.

One of the things that I want to focus on more this year is how to create vivid and complex characters and this article is a prime example of how to do it. I really love the dynamic character art, but what really makes this character shine (or dark, honestly, in this world) is the writing of course.

Worldbuilding Awards - 2024
Generic article | Mar 20, 2024

The articles and a map that I have submitted for the Worldbuilding Awards 2024, along with some commentary.

With another year of WAWAs knocking on our door, why not revisit a list of articles that people feel the proudest about. Sometimes I do feel a little bit of FOMO when I am not able to fully participate in all of the things that are happening in our little worldbuilding bubble on the internet, because that bubble has grown sizeably bigger. And when it comes to Dhelian I came here for the glorious map of course and left with some inspiration about how to market oneself and their creations, with probably the most up-to-date quotes.

Melior - Worldbuilding Awards 2024
Generic article | Mar 19, 2024

My best worldbuilding and entries for the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards 2024.

Again, I feel like I am cheating a little bit here, by including another article full of wonderful article, but the lesson here is that I want to learn from the best and TJ is the one that has been showing so many cool things that you can do with this platform. It would be hard for me to pick just one article that I want to learn from. And what do I want to learn? Everything!

One-Parisan Main Battle Tanks— that can fly.

I had the luck to be able to join the Ethnis team on their stream in January and had an absolute great time. Obviously Ethnis is one of the most notorious worlds we have here and definitely something that I can learn a ton of information from, even if I am not currently in my sci-fi era nor am I trying to finish up a complex rpg system. I am a simple bean, but it is good to dream of great things sometimes and see how more ambitious ideas are pieced together into long aricles that do not feel overwhelming.

Dhanûian
Ethnicity | Nov 27, 2024

Proud warriors and skilled poets, the Dhanûian inhabit the dangerous Sheoin region and the great city-state of Dhanû.

Lovely Q is the master when it comes to taking quotes, columns and little bits of prose and putting it all together in one delicious bundle. It is like opening a bonbonier full of one of a kind chocolates. And that is something that I would like for my readers to be able to experience in my worlds as well, popping in for a quick bite and leaving with a satisfying taste in their mind. I don't know how else to describe it.

The Lost Lands by Frog God Games
Hyperboreans
Ethnicity | Apr 10, 2021
I picked this article somewhat at random this time, but I always love a good mystery and an ancient civilisation that has disappeared long time ago. I also have a soft spot for short, to the point articles that just gives you all the information you need without being too overbearing. Definitely a skill I want to practice more in the future.

Alana by Tillerz
Artigo
Building / Landmark | Feb 10, 2025

Tavern, inn, gambling hall, you name it.

Vehicle is probably a template that I struggle with the absolute most, so it is always good to find amazing examples of intricate articles that are able to make it fun and bring it all to another level. Another thing that I definitely need to learn a bit more about is how to integrate interactive little tid bits into the article like all mighty Tillerz does and make them more fun for people who run games.

The Cylinder's Library by Pouaseuille
The fairy king of the Gostran woods
Generic article | Jul 9, 2023
One of the far fetched goals that I have for this year is to get better at drawing simple things. And this world is full of wonderful illustrations that make something extraordinary from ordinary objects. Even when it is so creepy such as this article, there is something special about being able to turn normalcy into something magical.

Clockwork University – The Pinnacle of Gnomish Knowledge and Innovation
Organization | Oct 20, 2024

Revered by the city's 1.5 billion inhabitants, the university has played a pivotal role in shaping the technological dominance of the Gnomish people for nearly a thousand years,

While still unfinished, this most recent creation showcases brilliantly the complexity of containers and seemlessly weaving art through prose. I struggle with putting more complex ideas, such as vast institutions on paper, and making it interesting for other people to use. I will definitely reference this article as I go on and try to attempt to flesh out my own system of magical education this year. (It was also delightful to find out the little anvilite easter eggs here!)
