The Umanyc Spire was the fourth of the God Machines constructed by Dr. Y'zarr Tepek and his team of scientists. It was constructed at the site of the largest Oyl deposit ever discovered in the world of Pyre. When it was completed and put to use, it was originally built to serve as the primary source of Oyl for Alterr . It was discovered that the workers who had more than a little exposure to the Oyl as it was withdrawn from the deposit developed severe illnesses that handicapped them for the rest of their lives, including loss of use of limbs.

The workers and advocates on their behalf insisted that the Machine be shut down, arguing that the benefit of low-cost Oyl was not the worth the cost of its extraction. When they were refused, workers took matters into their own hands and sabotaged the extraction process, causing a massive explosion that fully destroyed the plant.

The regular extraction of Oyl created such a powerful vacuum that Oyl continues to flow from this deposit to this day, creating rivers of Oyl that travel around the nearby area like water.
