Oyl

Oyl is a miraculous and versatile substance that flows deep under the ground of Pyre.
While its existence has been documented for hundreds of years, the first reliable methods of extracting Oyl from the earth began to appear in civilizations around 250 years before the Cataclysm. The learned masters at the University of New Chumdunk theorized that Oyl began to form millions of years ago during a time that Dragyns dominated the lands. So numerous were their numbers, that the bodies of dead dragyns formed layers and layers over the ground. These layers were covered by soil and sediment in time and descended deep into the earth to be crushed by the pressure of the stone above. Between this pressure and the heat of Pyre's molten core, the bones and tissues of the dragyns were liquified into oyl deposits that waiting for eons to be discovered and extracted by humanity.
The uses of oyl are seemingly boundless and during the height of oyl technology, new wonders of oyl were discovered year after year.
Bioylogical: When applied to any organism, oyl vastly improves the efficiency of living cells. Animals fight off infections and heal wounds faster. Plant growth abounds and take on enhanced properties. Single celled organisms multiple rapidly and evolve.
Human consumption of oyl opens to path to higher levels of consciousness. Crude oyl causes mystical visions that users have described as "communing with God". Those who over utilize it are transformed into Seeyrs who do experience limited premonitions of the future. Refined forms of oyl can grant other boones to users such as heightened awareness of the senses, lightning fast reaction time, enchanced concentration and focus, and more.
Energy Production: Oyl contains vast amounts of energy per volume and that energy can be harnessed for productive or dangerous ends. During the height of the oyl age, it powered engines of mechanical wonder that were used in motor vehicles, Airships, Trayns, mechanical automata. Oyl plants provided electricity for teeming cities, while Oyl fueled farming equipments was used to feed people by the millions.
Weaponry: Use of highly explosive Oyl allowed for the creation of handheld firearms, a successor to the Oyl cannons of the medieval period. This development progress into highly advanced weapons and war machines to be deployed in the wars for Oyl that marred the last age. Mechanical walkers spat hails of lead bullets with automatic guns. Dreadnought airships fired mass artillery cannons and deadly broadsides. Sightless Flame consumed soldiers in instantaneous firestorms.
Materials: Use of Oyl to supplement existing building elements unlocked the potential for stronger and tougher materials. Advanced composites and ceramics proved essential to building the lighter than air ships that flew the skys of the Oyl age. New steel alloys forged and quenched with Oyl produced the new Oylenite , a steel unmatched in strength and hardness, that was used in the weapons and armor of the Oyl wars.
