Al Ayyid the Cleric
Born in the year 151 BC, to poor farming folk in the outskirts of Alterr. While he was still a young man, he left home with nothing to call his own and stumbled upon traveling preachers who taught him about what Oyl can provide for humanity. This resonated with him because of his poor upbringing and he believed he and his family should have been given more resources instead of struggling on their own. Al Ayyid joined these preachers, who were members of Thran Su'Danir, one of the first formalized religious group to worship Oyl as a product of the divine. After the world emerged from the Medieval Era and the discrepancies of power and resources with the Lords ruling their fiefdoms, the followers of Thran Su'Danir saw access to Oyl and its use to both gain magical powers and to power machinery as a path toward equality. Al Ayyid rose in their ranks as a religious teacher. His efforts led to a significant increase in their numbers, and new communities formed that engaged in devoted Oyl worship. Al Ayyid's sermons frequently preached against the overuse of Oyl machinery to fuel the wealth of the rich and powerful.
Al Ayyid the Cleric oversaw a tumultuous time in the theocratic Oyl cult of Thran Su'Danir, as they navigated the rise in popularity of Dr. Y'zarr Tepek and his Oyl machinations. Not surprisingly, when Dr. Tepek began to create bigger and better machines and used these inventions to consolidate power, influence, and resources, Al Ayyid saw this as an insult to God. He demanded that Dr. Tepek be made to account for the harms he was doing to society. The public pressure mounted so much that Dr. Tepek agreed to a public debate wherein they each combated their ideas against each other before a massive audience. This took place in the year 92 BC.
Al Ayyid lived until he was 93 years and was interred on his family's property in the outskirts of Alterr, where a shrine remains to the present day.
