The Spire
Located in the exact center of the Aetherius Orbital Colony, the structure known as the Spire is the administrative and political center of the Free Systems Alliance. Consisting of a large tower surrounded by a sprawling complex of offices dedicated to managing the administrative needs of the Alliance and its members, the Spire has been the site of many historical reforms (including the establishment of the Galactic Market, the founding of the Free Systems Alliance, and the establishment Galactic Common Tongue as a universal language), as well as serving as the seat of power for the Alliance Council, the de facto leadership of the FSA. Today, the Spire stands as a symbol of the Free Systems Alliance, and the spirit of cooperation that ties them together.
Purpose / Function
The Spire was constructed to serve as the administrative center of Aetherius and the wider Free Systems Alliance, housing the many facilities needed to efficiently manage the governance of the Alliance and its territories, as well as the Council Chamber where major reforms are passed, disputes between members are settled, and responses to major, galaxy-wide crises are coordinated.
Alterations
While the Spire has remained largely unaltered since its construction, there have been expansions to the administrative offices surrounding its base as the star nations they are tied to expanded themselves. Additionally, the interior and the outdoor courtyard have seen the addition of many decorative elements over the years, including sculptures and artwork.
Architecture
The administrative complex at the base of the Spire is a circular building with a slightly domed roof, segmented into areas containing offices dedicated to each member star nation of the Alliance. Additionaly, there's a large lobby located on the east, west, north and south sides of the complex, with an outdoor courtyard directly outside. The main structure consists of a 670m tall tower at the center of the complex, with the Council Chamber and councilor offices located at the top. the Council Chamber is a large, circular room with seats for the representatives of the Alliance taking up 3/4 of its diameter, and the seats for the Aetherius Council (who act as arbiters in alliance matters, and manage Aetherius as a whole) taking up the remaining 1/4. Additionally, there is a large window that covers the entire diameter of the Spire in the Council Chamber, as well as the lobby directly beneath, providing an unmatched view of the entire Aetherius Colony. The entire structure of the Spire, both the tower and the complex around it, is constructed from sleek metal.
Defenses
The Spire has no weapon systems, though all doors and windows are sealed off by blast doors and shutters in the event of an attack.
Tourism
While entry into the Spire is mostly restricted to government officials and council members, it remains a popular tourist destination for those visiting Aetherius.
