Broken System

"Broken System" is an infamous political manifesto. It was first published by an anonymous account on the social media site: YouChat.com, in the year 2079. Within a few hours, the post had gone completely viral, being reposted millions of times before it was eventually scrubbed clean from The Web. It did, however, left a small but persistent impact on the world, which lasts to this day.

Historical Details

Historique

At 6:02 pm, an anonymous user, named "@XyT0" posted a short text message on YouCHAT.com. In just a few minutes, the post had thousands of interactions, and by the 10 minute mark, the post had hundreds of thousands of interactions. 11 minutes after it was first published, the post was taken down, and the account banned.   AI moderators on the platform (APMs) had been alerted within a few minutes of the post's publishing, but for some reasons YouCHAT.com refuses to explain to this day, it took over 10 minutes for the post to be taken down. Unfortunately for the authorities, the government, and the megacorps, these 10 minutes allowed the post to spread far and wide.   For hours, copies of the post would continue to be reposted by tens of thousands of accounts, with comments both in support and in opposition. For the autorités however, it didn't matter what their opinions were, as many who reposted the original post were arrested in the following days.   The post was eventually largely scrubbed off the web, with the help of powerful AI tools. In the real world, a few peaceful protests were held in front of government buildings and corporate offices, with protesters citing the message or the post as inspiration of motivations.   This led many governments, most notably the EFS (European Federal State), the NCR (New Californian Republic), and the Yukon Republic, to classify the post as an extremist manifesto, rendering any distribution of it illegal and classified as a terror threat. More arrests were made, with videos of the interactions going viral all over the web, before being quickly taken down.   In response, a small riot occurred in Oakland, in the NRC, near the local headquarters of Gentech on May 5. About 100 to 150 people showed up to the protest, which degenerated into what media called a riot, after a few of the protesters began spray painting parts of the wall around the property. In response, the city and corporate police forces attacked the rioters, killing three and injuring over a dozen.   Still, despite public anger, the crackdowns eventually worked, and by the end of the year, the story had been made largely irrelevant by the government and the media, and eventually, the public stopped caring. As for law enforcement, they were forced to drop the case as well, as they never caught "Xyt0", the anonymous publisher.

Réaction du public

The reaction was mixed, and overall generally hostile towards the post. Many users tagged the post, criticizing it with accusations of it being propaganda, communist delusions, and some even calling the anonymous user a foreign agent, trying to sow discontent.
"Thank you for speaking the truth! These megacorps have too much power over us! They control our government and police! We deserve better! Also, please stay safe. I think YouCHAT isn't going to be too happy this is going viral."
— @Gregdude61
"Are you stupid? Its the corporations that have saved the world from the idiocy of the pre-war government. The destruction you talk about was brought on by THEM, and the corporations are trying to fix it! Ungrateful bastard!"
— user: @Lilypicks54

A minority of users agreed with the post, calling the anonymous user brave for speaking out a truth that many couldn't or didn't want to. Others also appreciated them for calling out the shady practices of Gentech, and Fullfoods.

One of the most peculiar event that followed the publication of the post was the explosion of conspiracy theories, which all related largely to one corporation: Gentech. The author mentioned the Yukon City based genetic research megacorp in his post, accusing it of creating "Feral abominations" instead of providing the population with the cures for various ailments, which the author asserts they have in their possession.   However, these discussions aren't tolerated by the megacorps, who use their armies of AI powered moderators(APMs) to track and delete any mention of them. As a result, those who want to uncover these conspiracies must go in the more isolated and forgotten corners of The Web, out of reach from the powerful APMs that plague the rest of the Web. One such platform is called [REDACTED], and it can only be accessed through invitation.
"I'm in YC. If you're also from there, you'll know that there's a large nature preserve west of the city, in the mountains. I'd bet a million euro-creds that's where the bastards keep their secret labs. Gentech owns that land and no one is allowed there... There's auto-turrets and drones set up to keep people out. They treat it like their little playground, so who knows what the fuck they're doing in there. I have a friend that live close to that area, and they've been telling me about some rumours of weird sightings in the neighbourhoods around it, and i'm thinking: Maybe its those "Feral abominations" that Xyt0 was talking about."

Publication Status

This so-called manifesto is highly illegal to possess, copy, distribute, or recite publicly. It is considered to be very dangerous as it has allegedly fueled extremist views against the government, and more importantly, the megacorps. For this reason, people can be arrested, fined, and even jailed for doing any of the actions mentioned above.

Purpose

It seems, by all available information, that the purpose of releasing such a brazen post was to spark an anti-corporate revolt, especially against the corporations that are mentioned directly: Gentech and Fullfoods.

Legacy

To this day, the person who published the infamous YouCHAT post, Xyt0, remains unknown. 17 years have past, and while the post itself has become somewhat mythical and forgotten, as the vast majority of Web users have never, and will never actually see it or hear about it, many groups in the far reaches of the Web still talk about it, and about the many conspiracies the post, and its author, have spawned.

Official corporate statements

In the wake of the post's viral spread, part of the fault was put on YouCHAT for not neutralizing it's spread fast enough. In response, YouCHAT released this statement: YouCHAT's official statement
Two days ago, on May 1st of this year, we were made aware of a dangerous post circulating on our platform. Immediately, we took decisive action to limit and eradicate its spread, by banning the original account, as well as those who reposted the post in question, and by contacting local authorities to explore legal avenues. As of now, the post in question has been scrubbed from our servers, and while many attempts were made to reintroduce the post, all of them have been unsuccessful thanks to our powerful and state of the art APMs. Let it be known that any calls to violence, protests, and civil disobedience is strictly prohibited on our platform. Any account found to be in violation of these policies will be banned, and its users will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Thank you, and happy scrolling. ;)
Eventually, after the dust had truly settled, Gentech released a rather vague statement, which many said indirectly confirmed a lot of the suspicions and conspiracies, without admitting to any of it directly. Gentech's official statement
We, at Gentech, are at the forefront of genetic research, engineering and Innovation. While we acknowledge the critical and crucial role that nature has played in the past, we must also recognize that it is simply not enough anymore to rely on it. We must, as a species, take control of our genetic future. We must go further, and we will not stop until we close the gap between us and perfection. Yes, we may stumble and make mistakes on the way there; Science is littered with such events, but i hope the population, and especially our valuable investors and shareholders know that nothing will stop our pursuit of genetic innovation. For a better future.
