In a realm dominated by ancient histories and traditions, the empire of Turin stands apart from its peers as a nation built on a rejection of old gods and old ways. Founded in an oasis on the borders of the Scarlands, what started as a goblinoid host quickly expanded and assimilated different peoples and cultures, adopting traits from each in order to form a stronger and more cohesive whole.
Religion
The faith held by the Turin empire and its people is built around its founders, a group of exceptional individuals collectively known as the Deliverance. Eachis considered a representative and champion of their lineage. First among this new pantheon of gods is Aisa Osman, the hobgoblin founder and the first empress of Turin. Most other faiths are accepted in Turin, The exception being deities historically involved in the perpetuation of conflict between species, such as Corellon, Gruumsh, Araleth, Lolth, Kurtulmak, and Glittergold. While the private practice of these faiths are not actively persecuted, priests are not recognized as eligible for public office, and acts of public worship and proselytization are criminalized.
Culture
The culture of Turin, like most other aspects of life within the empire, stems from their military. Group cohesion and martial training are considered as essential to the empire’s young minds as reading and writing. The overriding attitude in the empire’s culture is one of militant communal utilitarianism. This attitude is best encapsulated in a motto passed down by its founders: “Become your greatest self, then commit yourself fully to the cause of others.”
Technology
Though not nearly as advanced as their Arcanian neighbors, lacking the power of their Pylon, Turin is quick to utilize technology to further the nation’s security and prosperity, be it the early adoption of firearms or the construction of continent-spanning roads and aqueducts. Notably, although now much more common in Arcan, the process for creating replicant mortals was originally re-discovered in Turin. Contemporary scholars consider Turin to be in the early stages of industrialization.
Politics
The political structure of Turin is republican, with public offices separated into various tiers. In order to run for a given office, one must have first served in a lower office, and have been nominated by a peer of the same position. This system of promotion occurs in the bureaucracy, military, and recognized priesthood.
